Arctic/Offshore Patrol Ship AOPS

That's interesting, thanks. Does that mean the class now has a green deck, or is it still ship by ship, with specific limitations?

And out of curiousity, have they actually sealed the tracks yet, or is it still a gutter down onto the quarterdeck which would put any spilled fuel right onto the aft rescue team?

All joking aside, I think this is going to be good for the RCN and will open their eyes to what a non-Cyclone helicopter can offer them. There are a lot of tasks they will be able to do with this capability.

Pushing the RCN to be a Coast Guard in grey is not a win.

One just needs to look at the utility helos HMCS Labrador carried to determine the tasks and possibilities a utility helo can bring them. This trial was done because the ship wanted this ability on their circumnavigation and utilize the MOU that both parties signed years ago.

Well we are always being told the AOPs is a non-combatant, so this is a good way to increase her effectiveness at minimal cost. The RN runs two sizes of helicopters as well and likley we are not getting anymore Cyclones.
