I am wondering how it all works. Do we need to get a firearms license like all Canadian citizens? Are we issued a personal weapon by the military? What about if I am just a radio technician? Do we need to carry a gun at all times while on duty?

Oye......

FAC, NO.

When in the field, yes you will have a weapon with you......

You'll get issued one when the Army decides you need one.

No

All trades get trained on the C7 Rifle in Basic.

Is this for a civilian firearms license your talking about?

I am extremely tempted to BS here but I will bit my tongue.

As per the above, the only real people in the military who have guns at all times are MPs and even then only while on the job.

No, you get no civilian equivalent of anything and what you will learn in the military will not write off anything or give you permission to do anything as a civilian.

You will be trained on some weapons, and if you pass basic handling tests on them you will be allowed to fire them in a hyper-controlled environment.

I am in the Infantry and have had a rifle perhaps 1/5 of the days I've ever gone to work.  If you're in garrison you sign it out and give it back at the end of the day, and if you're in the field for a week or two it stays with you the whole time and you give it back at the end.

That being said, in your trade you'll probably have a rifle 1% of your time in the CF, but basic training will be front loaded with rifle training for drill, class, and inspection purposes.

With that, I think our question has been answered, and this is a lock.

Join us next time when Super Applicant is confounded by his arch nemesis, Question Man, with a double doozy and is forced to ask;

Zounds, must you wear a uniform when you serve the military,  and if so, can you choose which to wear?

Remember Kiddies, same Super Applicant site, Same type of Super Applicant Thread.  Good night,and sleep tight.
