Argyll's, Riley's, or Lorne Scot's?

Can I get some honest opinions on the Argyll's, Riley's and Lorne Scots.  In particular, I'd like to know what people see as their strengths and what they offer that is perhaps unique?  I don't want any responses that slag certain reserve units in any way (that's not my intent at all).  I am applying to the army reserve very soon and am fairly close to these three reserve infantry units and am just very confused about which one to choose.  I've searched for similar threads and found a couple from 5 or so years ago, but I would appreciate responses that are applicable today.

Thanks in advance

Just a thought; why not contact each unit and arrange a visit during a training night.  Since the Argylls and the RHLI are co-located, it would really mean only 2 trips.  This way, you could talk to the troops, officers and NCOs and get your answers first hand.  You can also then see what your weekly commute to the armoury would be like as well as what the facilities are like.

This would also be a good chance to find out which one has openings and when.

Hope that helps.

I went through a similar decision about 13 years ago. I grew up in Oakville and had to decide between RHLI and Lorne Scots when I joined. At the time, I picked the RHLI for the sole reason that I didn't want to wear a kilt. Frankly, it was a pretty stupid reason to pick a regiment.

I found the commute to Hamilton to be a bit of a pain in butt, especially seeing as I lived about 2 km from the Lorne Scotts armoury. Doing basic on weekends, I had to allow for upwards of an hour and a half to get into work.  I won't comment on the difference between the two regiments as it's been a long time since I was a Riley but I'd be willing to bet the differences aren't that drastic anymore since the Pioneer platoon was stood down.

I really enjoyed my time with the RHLI but in retrospect, probably would have enjoyed being a Lorne Scott just as much and would have saved a lot of stress fighting traffic.
