Hello, i am a civilian and I am very interested in starting a collection of Canadian Army stuff. Before I start, I would like to know if there are any things that are restricted, anything I could get in trouble for having.

Don't quote me on this (I can just see the trial: "but pinky said!") but I'm pretty sure everything CADPAT (the digital camouflage) is still restricted. Can anyone clarify that?

Most of the time if you get it in a surplus it's legit.

Cheers,
Pinky

No, you can get a lot of stuff off Wheeler's. The only thing is that CADPAT is copyrighted, and if you're not a member of the military don't wear a CF uniform. A lot of CADPAT like shirts and pants though, but they are all designed to not look like CF uniforms for fear of losing their CADPAT licenses.

Seems all too many are overly ANAL about this CADPAT delema (many of it is rumour not based on fact), some real stuff which openly appeared here in Australia in the shops even before it was in the CF system in some cases.

There is a host of CF eqpt for ya, including C7 bayonets, boots, web gear, badges, patches, packs, etc.

If you are ever keen on collecting Australian kit, let me know. Here there is plenty of AUSCAM (DPCU and DPDU to go around, plus again current bayonets, boots, webbing, packs, hats, badges, etc.

Regards,

Wes

Why are the CADPAT's restricted? I see civvies wearing CADPAT pants and stuff, but I've never seen anyone wearing full CADPAT combats, just the old OD's.

I haven't seen civvies wearing it yet, except those fancy pictures by Sylvia Pecota of the bikini's and what not.  I figure it will get popular when snoopy and puffy start "givin props to the cf" by wearing it in some videos or to awards.  I saw a picture of the the best thing to leave Canada, and opefully never return, Tom Green wearing an old 4 seasons jacket with no slip ons.  But so far the people you may have seen with it are probably serving members, on their way to or from work.  Was it on a hanger, over their arm, or strapped to their back?

When I saw the CADPAT, he was probably just a civvie. The guy just walkin down the street in his CADPAT pants, with his buddies (punks wearing combat boots). I saw another guy coming back from work, but he wasnt wearing any bling or trying to look "cool" in combats, so he was obviously the real thing. He was wearing full CADPAT, a beret, combat boots, and he had Sergeant slip-ons.

There is always lay abouts and dirt bags that do stuff like that.  It is cool to "be different, an outsider" by wearing a uniform and smoking dope and draining society.  I think it is funny that those people go to such lengths to be different that they come almost full circle, how different are you when you start wearing a uniform?  Unless you are stealing the stuff form a QM, selling it for the thief, or standing in front of an MP challenging him to bust you, I don't think anything will ever come of all this "restricted" business.  Like going 101 on a 100, are they really going to bother with it?

Hey, I am in army cadets but i do collect military kit. I have 2 sets of odd combats, webbing, 82 ruck with 62 frame, dessert boots and black Cadillacs, gortex jacket, robinhood hat, gas mask pouch and much more I do not collect the new cadpat yet because as mentioned it is priority for the military to have. Everytime i go to the surplus store i leave with spending cash.

CADPAT itself is not restricted. It must be licenced however, in order for a company to produce any CADPAT kit.

The uniform is restricted, but there are CADPAT pants, shirts, and other stuff out there that civvies buy. However, the licence agreement precludes it from looking like an official uniform, and there are no epaulets for slip-ons.

On some of the airsoft forums there is whole teams in cadpat and it looks like the real deal, they have the boonie hats to go with it.

Never play "airsoft" against them then, they sound like true killers, real professionals.  Or a bunch of Militia guys.  Or ebay fanatics.

Cad-Pat that we are issued is an ITAR/CTAT item and is therefore controlled goods because the material we have is treated.

The stuff in surplus stores is made of a different material usually and is not treated.

I don't play airsoft at all. I was going to get into it but I'm 14 as mentioned its hard when your 14 because all the team want people who are 18 and older, because some 14 year old's are not mature enough. Plus i don't have the cash. I also think some people are obsessed with these games.

Tell me about it. You guys here of that guy that got stabbed in china for selling his buddy's rpg character's sword online? People take some things way too seriously. Anyways, as for collecting kit, in the end it probably won't matter WHAT you end up getting for yourself (unless it's a Carl G... that might cause a few problems) as long as you don't start wearing it around town trying to look like a soldier.

Cheers,
Pinky
