I've been shopping around for a good target pistol, but unfortunately I don't have much experience with Handguns.  I'd like to go with the 9mm version of the Desert Eagle.  Never fired one, but it feels really good in my hand and I hear that Israeli weapons are tough to beat.

I'm mainly interested in competitive target shooting, but not really the Police/Tactical stuff.  Rolling around is for Ja-Rule videos!  ;)

Could someone list some pros/cons of the Baby Eagle, or even other handguns to look at?

For various members' opinions on handguns that they have already typed out for your reading pleasure:

Thanks.  I actually performed a search for the Baby eagle, but didn't find a whole lot.

I'll defiantly use the search for some different kinds of Handguns though.

Oh no! Not the search engine! Don't you do that, I'm warning you!

I havn't heard too many good things about the Desert Eagle, maybe the 9mm is better.

I've had some fun with the .50 but it has limited uses.

The “Baby” Eagle is really a CZ clone, they are a nice feeling pistol and fairly beefy which will give you good muzzle control. I almost got one but am more of a Sig guy myself.
I suggest buying it in 9mm if you get one. As a new shooter you will want to shoot lots and 9mm is the cheapest centre-fire going. You might find parts hard to come by, a few shooters that I knew who owned them quite liked them, the fit and finish was good. I seem to remember a price point of around $699 which competes directly with the CZ pistols. IMI also makes the Bul 1911 pistols featured on Marstar and they have those in 9mm as well.

Fondle lots of pistols, go to the range and try to shoot some, bring your own (retail) ammo and most people will be happy to let you shoot their gun. It most important the gun fits you and the more you fondle guns the sooner you will realize which is the “one” (normally $100 more than you want to spend).

the way, action shooting is lot of fun and you don’t need to be in super shape to do it. If you want a true “target pistol” then you need to spend some serious money. If you are looking for a duty type pistol then here are some other pistols to consider.

Norinco 1911 or CZ clones
CZ 85b or 75b
Sig 226 CPO
Glock G17  (some people love the grip others hate it)
S&W M&P
Springfield XD
HK’s USP
Walter
FN Hi-power

All of the above are good to excellent duty pistols.
