Conservative caucus removes Rustad​

The B.C. Conservative caucus has ousted John Rustad from his position as party leader Wednesday, a source confirmed.

The move follows a letter to the party’s president, which claimed 20 Conservative MLAs have “executed” statements, saying they’ve lost confidence in him and want him out after months of inter-party turmoil.

Reports are now coming in that Rustad and a small group of loyalists fled early this afternoon on a stolen Harbour Air float plane, and have declared an opposition-in-exile in Port Hardy. NDP door knockers have reportedly scrambled and are moving towards Campbell River.

Unfortunately, this was always going to be the case with this band. It was a group of kooks that rode a wave of Poilievre popularity and a fantastically stupid move by Falcon to rename the B.C. Liberals to B.C. United.

I’m still not sure where the pros and the Howe Street crowd are going to go. They seem to be sitting things out for the time being.

BREAKING: Rustad resigns as leader after B.C. Conservative ouster

John Rustad has resigned as leader of the Conservative Party of B.C. and as leader of the Official Opposition. The Nechako Lakes MLA announced his resignation in an emailed statement Thursday (Dec. 4), saying that he was proud of what the party has built.

The B.C. Conservative Party rose from the political wilderness under Rustad to dethrone B.C. United as the Official Opposition. It went from having Rustad as its sole MLA to electing 44 on Oct. 19, 2024.
