A little background:
Am in the whole "moving to Pet from Wx" mode as we speak. Since I never have taken one before, 9nr domestic decided that this time I am going to take the DIT, and I just thought of a reasonable question. Since during the DIT, I am considered "on duty status", and doing what we do on base(PMQ inspection, schools and touring my new shop), would it be prudent for me to bring/wear my uniform during the DIT,at least for the on base portion?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

You only get one chance to make a first impression. If you have the room, take a uniform. Others might disagree with me, but I'm a bit old school on the whole reporting in uniform issue.

Note that you are not "expected" to report to your new unit while on DIT or HHT for that matter. You are on duty status with the purpose of securing or inspecting accomodations at the new loaction, nothing more. However if you choose to report to our new unit then I am with ModlrMike and you should be in uniform. Besides, taking the time to visit while you are there are part of making a good first impression, and a uniform would greatly assist with this.

GP: I verified with my Chief Clerk - Petawawa Base Policy is "uniform is not required during HHT or DIT".  If you are planning to visit your new workplace then I would call them to determine their wishes.  Since you are not clearing in, but just visiting - IMHO you should be in presentable civilian clothes and with proper personal hygiene (ablutions, clean-shaven if applicable).

Thanks for the replies so far.
I definatly want to make a good, professional first impression. It's true that I am not clearing in,but to be honest,I would like to know where I'm going building wise(2RCHA) and who my immediate supervisor/contact person is as soon as I hit ground. Having been in the "Army of the West" since my three's,I don't know any techs from there and a good first impression could help ease the "new place" jitters.

Thanks

On my last posting I did exactly that. Clean, presentable civvie clothing and that included a visit to my gaining unit so that they could put a face to the name.

Why don't you call CSN 677-5340 - 2 RCHA Weapons Tech shop - introduce yourself and let them know when you are coming for DIT.  Maybe they will be in the field at that time and you won't be able to visit.  Maybe they will tell you who your sponsor will be and they can offer you some insight. The acting i/c Wpns is a MCpl.  They are located in bldg Z-117 on Base map look East from corner of Montgomery and Centurion Roads.  You can get a Map of Base and Town at: http://www.army.dnd.ca/cfb_petawawa/aboutcfbpetawawa-en.html

This is a personal thing but everytime I travel on duty status whether uniform is required or not I take my 3b's with me just in case, takes up little space and can be quite handy sometimes. And knowing the guns the way I do (the guys that used to "highly blacken" the toes of cbt boots, it never hurts to make a strong first impression, when I look at a new guy reporting in (whether it was my time in the Navy or now in the Army) my first impression always goes back to what did the guy look like the first time I met them well turned out, high military bearing, or out of the kit bag slouching hands in pocket bag of poop. your call but if you choose not to go the uniform route, were something decent, cut off's with sideways ballcap is not decent,  and yes I had a young OS report yes report in that rig.

Different for me as my trade only has 345 people in and we are kind of a dysfunctional family.

Agree, the OD with no haircut and 3 sick chits in hand, leaves a real bad impression.
