British Military Current Events

British soldiers could be sent to fight Islamic State terrorists in Libya, the Foreign Secretary says, as western leaders draw up plans to tackle the jihadists in North Africa.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Philip Hammond says he cannot "rule out" the need for troops in future to combat the terrorists who have seized a stretch of Libya’s Mediterranean coast.

The so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant are seeking to turn Libya into a “bolthole” from which to launch attacks on mainland Europe, or ships at sea, Mr Hammond says.

British Special Forces in Libya have been ambushed by Islamic State (Isis) suicide bombers in an attack that may also have killed Italian troops. An Israeli news agency report suggests that Daesh (Isis) extremists attacked a convoy travelling from the northwestern city of Misrata towards the IS stronghold of Sirte – the birthplace of former dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

The attack on 27 April, targeted the convoy carrying Special Boat Service (SBS) operatives and Italian troops. The suicide mission was said to resemble similar terrorist attacks by Islamic State in the Sinai Peninsula operations against Egyptian forces.

Royal Navy warned off a Spanish patrol boat in Gibralta that had gotten too close to the USS Florida.Spain needs to avoid these types of incidents.Arent we on the same side ?

http://www.businessinsider.com/royal-navy-fires-warning-shots-as-spanish-vessel-harasses-us-sub-in-gibraltar-2016-5

The Royal Navy fired flares to warn of a Spanish patrol boat approaching an American nuclear submarine off Gibraltar.

The fast patrol boat HMS Sabre fired warning shots across the bow of a Guardia Civil vessel as it twice tried to cut across the path of USS Florida during an incursion into Gibraltar’s waters.

Gibraltar says Spanish vessels regularly stray deep into its territorial waters and the Foreign Office has attacked the incursions as provocative.

The SAS snatched several IS leaders in a classic raid in Mosul. It sends a nice message to the bad guys that there is no safe place for them.Mosul is going to fall very soon.

British SAS troopers have successfully kidnapped three Islamic State (Isis) chiefs in daring lightning raids in Mosul, according to reports. The city is the largest in Iraq still under Isis (Daesh) control, but is facing increased pressure from the north, south and east by the Iraqi army, Kurdish Peshmerga forces and US-led Western airstrikes.

British special forces, including the Special Air Service (SAS), have been operating in Iraq in conjunction with other western forces to help plot attacks on the militants, with snipers taking out high-level members of the terror group on several occasions.

Now it has emerged that more than 20 members of British special forces, most of them in the SAS and under US command, have been co-ordinating top-secret snatch missions on IS compounds in Mosul. The operations use a three-pronged attack of diversionary air strikes to the north of the city with Typhoon fighter jets, whilst RAF Sentinel spy planes intercept communications.

Interesting problem, is that because the cool water around the ship helps keep the engines cooler?
