The giveaway is that he was humble?

Sober ;)

And the small detail that there's no one in the RN currently serving wearing a DSO, especially an Army DSO.

There is some question about the guy behind him in this photo too with the unidentifiable, but clearly obvious, cap badge..,

Lawfare having its impact...

SAS recruitment plummets under Labour over fears officers are not supported by chain of command

The Special Air Service is suffering a shortage of officers caused by the onslaught of lawfare directed at its soldiers and veterans.

The crisis is said to have been caused by officers fearing they will face criminal actions over split-second decisions on the battlefield.

The problem is so serious that reservists are being enticed into the regular SAS to take up senior positions.

The Mail has learned that appointees have included a part-time captain who had his pistol and secret documents stolen on a top-secret mission overseas.

The SAS appealed to a judge hearing his court martial to spare the experienced reservist, as he had been shortlisted for an important post.

The officer was travelling on a train in an undisclosed country when a briefcase containing the weapon and important papers was removed from his cabin.

Fears over recruitment were raised in the House of Commons on Wednesday as MPs demanded Sir Keir Starmer should start 'standing up for veterans'.

At Prime Minister's Questions, Sir Keir was put on the back foot by Stuart Anderson MP, a former soldier, who said lawfare was 'a threat to national security'.

On Wednesday night, former SAS Commanding Officer Richard Williams said: 'It should not surprise anyone that the prospect a lifetime of investigations is reducing the flow of officer volunteers.

'Until the broken basis for Special Forces operations is settled, why would the bravest and brightest sign up for assured persecution for doing their dangerous and essential duty for their country?'

As many as 100 SAS veterans from Northern Ireland, including officers, face lengthy investigations and possible criminal charges after Labour scrapped legislation protecting troops.

The Legacy Act, introduced in 2023, secured partial immunities from prosecution for soldiers involved in Northern Ireland and other conflict zones.
