From the DIP

"a new doctrine of fighting by recce-strike at all levels"

"Land lethality:
Over £20bn to rapidly multiply the Army’s
lethality by ten times through autonomous
systems, long range missiles, AI, and
armoured vehicles, underpinned by a new
doctrine of fighting by recce-strike at all levels.
This investment will contribute to our
longer-term commitment of a transformed
Strategic Reserve Corps for NATO."

Sound like "infantillery" (pace @OldSweat ) over bayonets.

SKYNET is rearing its ugly head

My overall view of the UK's DIP is: all the right things being said but speed and numbers (in the ense of mass today) are missing.

I see both Ukraine and Russia striking each other a lot over the last four years and tons of strikes against Iran this year, but I don't see much ground being taken.

Precision strike definitely has an important role but it won't win a war and it won't take or hold ground.

But it seems to prevent losing wars. And I am unsure about the "holding ground". A large part of holding ground is breaking up enemy assaults and UxVs together with Situational Awareness seem to be highly effective in that regard.

I agree with you on taking ground but if your enemy is willing to exhaust themself running onto your bayonets without you exhausting yourself eventually your enemy presents you with opportunities. And not necessarily on the conventional battlefield.

Like the RCN's programme? A year of no commitment experimentation followed by the opportunity to pack up, join the regs or join the reserves.
