British PM Boris Johnson and Now Liz Truss resigns

Yeah - suffice it to say I am not a Rishi fan. I think he will get along just fine with young Justin.
He is going to play the "First Indian PM of UK card" so he will be untouchable for awhile. On the plus side he may focus on getting some better trade deals for the UK with Canada and India.

Current party rules have removed power from caucus - in the interest of broad based party support, they have disempowered elected representatives.
You mean they are empowering the narrow constituency of the paying supporters over the broader constituency of the electors?

'Deeply unhappy' Tory MPs drafting letters of no confidence after Sunak's Cabinet purge

The Prime Minister has only been in the 10 Downing Street hot seat for less than a week but is already facing his first leadership nightmare.

Rishi Sunak is facing a major crisis with "deeply unhappy" Conservative Party MPs already preparing letters of no confidence in the Prime Minister, led by a furious backlash over his massive Cabinet reshuffle. Boris Johnson announced last Sunday night he was withdrawing from the Tory leadership contest, ending hopes of a stunning return. On Monday, Penny Mordaunt also said she was withdrawing, leaving the path clear for Mr Sunak to be formally announced as the next Prime Minister - without a vote being cast.

But in a major crisis, some "deeply unhappy" MPs on the right of the party are already preparing their letters to Sir Graham Brady, Chairman of the 1922 Committee, to ask for a vote of new confidence in Mr Sunak, as revealed by Express.co.uk political editor David Maddox.

He said their fury is being led by Mr Sunak's Cabinet changes, which resulted in "a number of sacked ministers" believing he failed to keep the promise he made of "a big tent" Government that "took in the different wings of the party".

Mr Maddox wrote: "While some of Ms Truss's appointments like Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, Culture Secretary Michelle Donelan and International Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch kept their jobs, they have been dismissed as 'the accommodating types' while real Brexiteers like Jacob Rees-Mogg and former chairman Jake Berry were ejected in short order.

"Below the Cabinet, the reshuffle was more akin to Nightmare on Elm Street than Downing Street with a clear out of Brexiteers, the 2019 intake and many from the Tory right."

Rishi Sunak is already coming under huge pressure from some Tory MPs

The Prime Minister quickly started a massive Cabinet reshuffle

It's another sign of the deep divisions that continue to tear the Tories apart, which have worsened considerably over recent months and even more so under the premiership of Liz Truss.

But Mr Sunak is already facing a major backlash, with one Conservative MP warning: "It's not a big tent at all. People are biding their time but letters are going to go in [to Sir Graham]. They are already being drafted.

"I think they will be going in after this weekend when people see what the new regime is going to be like. My guess would be that there will be crisis after crisis and letter after letter."

Another exasperated MP said: "Don't rule out another leadership vote next year."

Mr Maddox said in his article that fury surged on Sunday when supporters of the new Prime Minister "briefed the i newspaper about a push to 'purge the right' from the parliamentary party".

The reappointment of Suella Braverman as Home Secretary - "who has been a standard bearer for the right" - has also sparked a backlash.
She was sacked from the job earlier this month by Ms Truss but one Tory MP said her reappointment was a "sop to the right", while another warned letters will soon start "pouring in" demanding she is sacked.

Mr Sunak was formally confirmed as the UK's new Prime Minister last Tuesday afternoon and quickly set about insisting he would try to fix the mess left by his predecessor Ms Truss.

The former Chancellor also vowed to restore faith in politics and tackle a "profound economic crisis" but warned the country there would be difficult decisions.

In a speech outside 10 Downing Street, Mr Sunak paid tribute to Ms Truss, who only lasted 44 days in the top job as she paid the price for her disastrous economic policies that plunged financial markets into chaos.

He defended her for trying to "improve growth in this country" and said he "admired her restlessness to create change".

With an undead Boris lurking Sunak faces a nightmare on Downing Street warns, DAVID MADDOX

However, Mr Sunak also admitted: "But some mistakes were made. Not born of ill will or bad intentions. Quite the opposite, in fact, but mistakes nonetheless.
"And I have been elected as leader of my party and your Prime Minister, in part to fix them. And that work begins immediately.
"I will place economic stability and confidence at the heart of this government's agenda. This will mean difficult decisions to come."

Rishi argued that Liz should have had more of his people in her cabinet.

Her position was that a mixed cabinet hadn't helped Boris. She brought in supporters and left the backbench to her enemies.

The backbenchers then proceeded to bring her down.

Rishi promised to have a mixed cabinet.

He then filled it with his City supporters and a couple of wafflers.

He relegated to the backbenches all of Liz's and Boris's supporters, including all the new MPs from the North that Boris brought into the party and won the Tories the election,

They are now pissed and giving Rishi the same treatment he gave Boris and Liz.

Wash, Rinse and repeat.

I envy the Brits. Life is much more interesting.

Accommodation indeed --- bloodsport.

Conservative MPs who support Rishi Sunak are urging the new Prime Minister to crack down on the right-wing of the party and banish the influence of Boris Johnson.

Mr Sunak has chosen to adopt a unity approach to his Government, appointing senior Cabinet ministers who were strong backers of Mr Johnson and Liz Truss.

He said on Friday: “I’m confident that our party is united. It’s united behind delivering on the promise of the manifesto that we were elected on with very strong support in 2019.”

But privately, a number of Tories who supported Mr Sunak’s leadership campaign want him to take a tougher line on the right – including by sacking Suella Braverman as Home Secretary and ensuring Mr Johnson can never regain power in future.

But in a sign the truce appeared to be ending one pro-Sunak MP said that after the failure of the ex-Prime Minister’s leadership bid, “we can get rid of these shits now”. Another accused Mr Johnson of “poundshop Trumpian bullshit” after he repeatedly briefed journalists he would be a candidate for Tory leader, but never proved he had enough support to make it to the ballot paper.

Conservative Party bosses are now likely to reshape the party by picking more centrist candidates for vacant Commons seats, Mr Sunak’s allies predict.

And Gove apologizing for electing Liz....

Meanwhile there is Richard Tice's Reform Party in the offing and Boris plans to stay in the headlines

I feel like the UK conservatives are making sure they dont sit in office again for a very long time, when this term is up.

And, as if on cue, a wonderful metaphor for the current British political situation appears in Cornwall ;)

'Sewage pumped into sea' turns idyllic Cornwall cove brown in dramatic footage described as 'shocking'

Surfers Against Sewage says it has issued a number of new pollution warnings on beaches, mainly in the South West, and the charity is increasingly seeing people falling ill after swimming. South West Water say sewage is unlikely to have caused the level of discolouration seen.

Video footage has been captured appearing to show a large amount of raw sewage being pumped into seawater at a picturesque Cornish beach, in the latest incident to impact the UK coastline.

The discharge on Sunday happened at St Agnes beach on the north coast of the county after a storm overflow was triggered.

Thanks to Gavin Williamson, the era of dark arts in the whips’ office is over

If only Gavin Williamson had been allowed to build an underground lair inside a volcano. Or else to dig a moat around the whips’ office, and fill it with crocodiles.

But instead, Westminster’s wannabe Bond villain was forced to make do with keeping a pet spider on his desk. Like the enormous bullwhip he showed off to visiting photographers, Cronus the tarantula was meant to convey an aura of menace, while succeeding only in making one wonder what kind of grown man brings a pet spider to work. Less Lord Voldemort, perhaps, than reedy Gareth from The Office.

It was smart of Keir Starmer, then, to greet Williamson’s downfall this week not with outrage but derision, mocking him as the kind of “sad middle manager” noisily throwing his weight around who most of us will probably encounter somewhere in our working lives. Williamson thrived on the fear he generated in people whose livelihoods depended on him. What he could not survive, however, was scorn.

Any bets on how long this guy will last? :)

Who was the sharp one that caught this? What's the most isolated posting a Brit cop can get? Shetland Islands?

This is a bit of a gift, the police look impartial, the PM humbly accepts his mistake and pays the fine, people in corrupt countries are in awe the the PM is held to the same standard as the typical Brit. The PM can use this as a showcase of responsibility and how the UK is a country you can count on to uphold the law. The party better give him some slack, as they need stability so they don't look like complete idiots.
