This kind of fits into the discussion about multiple drone suppliers but only one vehicle supplier.

Building without permission. But also building without a manual. Building without a rule book.
Free form thinking.

Being forced to strip things back to first principles when the rule book no longer applies.

There always has to be a bit of room for mutations. Even if 98% of your needs are met off one production line, shouldn't there somebody doing the other thing? Just in case there is a better idea, or the situation changes and you need to pivot in a hurry.

You can't write a spec for that.
 
Works better in governance or business practices. If I'm having a house built, I'd prefer the folks have credentials and qualifications.
 
The innovation space often enough is populated by people who neither attempted the credential ladder or abandoned it early to do something real.
