i have had a number of replies to my messages about how i used to be in cadets but quit because they screwed around with me, and then joined reserves. it seems that a lot of people are complaining about the same thing. i think i need to put this message out to the rest of the military community on how the cadet system is not at all what it should be. i was in cadets for 4 years. in that time, i received some very valuable training which serves me well now that i‘m a part of the CF. but i feel that cadets isn‘t working right. when i say this, i don‘t mean to put the whole system down, i mean to say that the concepts of cadets are excellent but the people who run the show are not doing a good job of it at all!! my first example: cadets are run by CIC cadet instructors cadre officers. now, in order to become a CIC officer, you only have to take basic officers training for a few weekends to become qualified. i mean, a RESERVE NCM requires more training than that to become qualified in their trade!!! my platoon commander told us that he had to go through 26 weeks of training just to become a reserve infantry officer!!! this goes to support my point that CIC officers are undertrained for their jobs and have insufficient military experience to take a leadership position in a cadet unit. don‘t get me wrong, not all CIC officers are lacking in military experience. i had a few officers who were cadets themselves for a number of years before they went CIC, but there are too many than too few officers who don‘t know what they‘re doing. something that i have found is that a lot of officers play favourites. there were all too many incidents where when promotions came around, the people who i thought were great leaders and deserved to get promoted didn‘t and the slack-off no-brainers did get promoted just because their parents helped out with the sqn or they knew the officers outside of cadets or something. in the squadron i was in, the prerequisite for being promoted to corporal was to have the 2-week "basic" summer course and to be promoted to sergeant it was to have a 3-week course of your choice. there was one guy who joined two years after i did, had NO summer courses and was at the same rank as i was when i left after 4 years of service i was flight sergeant when i left. i worked extremely hard for my rank!! i had the 2-week basic course, a 3-week cadet instructors course and a 6-week survival instructors course under my belt. this guy only got to the position he got to because he was acquainted with a few of the officers outside of cadets. the majority of the squadron agreed that this guy should never have made it to where he was because he had poor leadership skills, had trouble even speaking in front of an audience and had VERY LITTLE experience because he had never gone on a summer course. another example was when i applied for the glider course. if accepted, selected cadets went away for 6 weeks and earned their glider pilot‘s licence. i took ground school with my home sqn in my second year. even though i wasn‘t old enough to go on the course that year, i took ground school anyways to gain experience for next year. the next year rolled aroud and i was 16, the age to get in. i worked my *** off!! i studied my ground school textbook every night!! i got a 77.5 on my exam. i did well on the interview and felt that i had a pretty good chance of getting on. i didn‘t. i could sort of understand because there were three people who were ahead of me on the seniority list even though i beat out 2 of them in the exams. the next year i decided to give it again. i studied and took the exam, scored a 77.5 again!! and did well on the interviews and stuff. again...they rejected me, and this time i was FIRST on the seniority list!!! my CO was as flabberghasted as i was as to why they rejected me again!! i heard from someone who had a family member as an officer in the sqn that one of the people who applied had their father come in and plead to the selection board that they had exams with school and were really stressed out and gave that as an excuse for their poor results on the entrance exam for glider. i guess they bought it, because that person got on the course. anyways, these are only two examples and sorry for the novel, but i wanted to make my point clear. i have seen so many other instances where CIC officers show corruption or play favourites, but if i were to type out any more of them, my fingers would fall off!! anyways, i hope i can get some response hopefully supportive to my views and opinions and even some negative responses so i can improve my arguements so that NOBODY can argue me down!!! muahahaha!! heh heh...sorry. thanx.
