Just thought I'd start a discussion on camo patterns preferred for hunting.  Do people here prefer to use military patterns such as CADPAT, DPM, Rhodesian, etc., or do they prefer the civy patterns such as Mossy Oak or Realtree Hardwoods?

Where I've been deer hunting lately with lots of dead fall vegetation, I prefer the Realtree Hardwoods pattern.  I drop my jacket on the ground, and it disappears!  But I would love to hear from other hunters what works for them.

Well, it's hunting season again...what kind of camo, if any, do you prefer?

Mossy Oak Brush or Prairie Ghost.

Camo is more for looks than anything when it comes to hunting. Jeans and plaid shirts were standard for a lot of years...

We have to wear Blaze Orange here in Ontario. Trust me, when deer hunting, camo is a waste of money, it's movement that catches their attention more than colours (they see in black and white like dogs). Also, scent and noise will tip them off long before anything visual will.

I stumbled across this a couple of years ago.  Kinda cool about the high end stuff filling in and the "tropical cam" working so well if they see in B&W.

Interesting website, BernDawg.  Thanks for sharing that.  I've never seen Predator fall grey anywhere.  It does not appear to be a common pattern.  I've never been a big fan of Mossy Oak.  When I hunt with friends who wear it, I can always see them because it's too dark.

Edit to add:

I have a Realtree shirt, and the other day I was thinking how much it looked just like a drab Hawaiian shirt!  ;D

Predator camo and ASAT are pretty popular here as well.

Is ASAT still being made? I have a set from about twenty years ago when it was touted as the absolute most ultimate thing but have not seen it since.

IMHO the only time you need camo as a hunter is when
bears start packing AK 47s.
