CAN-USA Tariff Strife (split from various pol threads)

With the polarization in politics these days, particularly in a de facto 2-party system, I don't see much alternative than bouncing between oligarchs. It similar up here with high-centralized/all-powerful PMOs simply changing sweaters every few years.
I long for the day's of Ministerial responsibility and 'falling on one's sword' if a major (or minor) gaffe occurred within your Ministry. That sense of personal responsibility and 'doing the right thing.'

It's pretty funny. I see Liberals posting in total support of this.
"Now isn't the time to worry about gender and inclusion!"

You couldn't find a crisper about turn on the march at a RCR parade square.

I've seen The RCR do drill...

Hopefully Carney will have a less centralized PMO. More freedom means more responsibility.

I’d like to hope that PP would do the same but I suspect how he’s got an iron grip on his party is just going to translate to his PMO.

The fact that I never see or nor hear from Michael Chong in the press anymore says to me that all roads lead to PP and all roads go through him.

One can dream but we haven't seen much decentralization since Trudeau the First days, or even back to the C. D. Howe days.

Der Fuhrer got all kinds to join with him and I'd classify him as a Cult.
Invoking Godwin's Law?

MAGA is not a cult.

According to the Cult Education Institute, there are specific warning signs to look out for when considering whether a group might be a cult. Cults are characterized by:2

  1. Absolute authoritarianism without accountability
  2. Zero tolerance for criticism or questions
  3. Lack of meaningful financial disclosure regarding budget
  4. Unreasonable fears about the outside world that often involve evil conspiracies and persecutions
  5. A belief that former followers are always wrong for leaving and there is never a legitimate reason for anyone else to leave
  6. Abuse of members
  7. Records, books, articles, or programs documenting the abuses of the leader or group
  8. Followers feeling they are never able to be “good enough”
  9. A belief that the leader is right at all times
  10. A belief that the leader is the exclusive means of knowing “truth” or giving validation

According to The Line article I posted, it sounds like he has an extremely small group he confides in and they all think alike. No Red Team, no devil’s advocate, all groupthink.

He still has the usual suspects running the PMO. My feeling is that he's going to be the front man while the PMO does the ground game. Not being a politician or knowing those inner workings, he'll be dependent on them to keep him pointed in the direction they want to go. As long as Telford and Butts are still involved, there won't be any changes from the way things ran under trudeau.

It very well could be the case to keep them in place until the election is over - the if he wins, the brooms come out and an all around cleaning occurs.

If he wins, he'll keep them. Why would you fire the people that just got you elected?

It's like all the promises to change our voting and election away from our FPTP system. Once the party, that’s promising electoral reform wins, they are loath to change the system that put them there.

Well, I'm sure THIS'LL help ....
Disrespectul comments? If that is his excuse for not talking to Trump’s team, that tells me he either has nothing to deal with or he's scared of meeting Trump or he's got no confidence in his team to tackle the negotiations.

You don't shy away from talks that'll affect two or more countries economies and trade, because a bully called you a name. That is no less childish than the person showing the supposed disrespect.

Pretty darned thin skinned for a guy claiming to be the financial saviour of our broken economy.
