Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

I hope this works, but I suspect it's just different bureaucracy.
Anyone wearing a uniform is right to be skeptical.

But I think that in principle and in theory that this is needed. In practicality we’ll have to wait and see.

It’s also a clear sign that the pivot away from relying on the US is going to be a lot longer than just these next 3 years.

Agreed. I don't have much faith in us not fornicating the K9 on these things.

It would be interesting to see what the Can Gov does if the Dems win the next election or start to turn things around with the mid terms.

Canada announces Defence Investment Agency to manage purchase, delivery of military equipment

Agency mandated to work more closely with allies including U.K., Australia and France

The new organization will be expected to consolidate procurement processes by removing duplicative approvals and red tape. It is also intended to provide the defence industry with greater clarity and certainty on the government's plans.

Significantly, the new agency will have a mandate to work "more closely with partners such as the United Kingdom, Australia and France, who already have dedicated procurement bodies, making joint defence purchases and partnerships easier and more efficient."
Looks like another very experienced private sector financial guy coming in to head this up.

Generational damage has been done. And it hasn’t even been a year in.

I think that Carney is setting the stage the a new normal that will not likely change with a change of gvt down south.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I've seen some solid ideas put up on how this would work. And we've had actual civvie EXs from MAT group on exchange in different countries to gain experience, with the hope of implementing some of what they've learned at home.

I'm a big fan of the Australian model. And my previous director when I was at MAT had spent several years at the Aussie agency. A big part of their success was building political consensus and coordinating with industry up front with strict defined lines. I hope to see more of this in Canada.

Performance based contracting was something they were good at if I recall

Lucky we got 26, that was COA 3, COA 1 was only 18, so arty branch got the fully number they wanted. Plus a very healthy first ammunition order.
COA Kev would have been 72.
2 Reg’t with 4 x 8 tube Batteries.
1 for the Expeditionary Div
1 for the DoC Div.
Then 8 to split, with 4 as Spares (2/Reg’t) and 4 to the RCEME School.

As well as domestic munition production with a LocMart Canada JV with either the Crown (IP concerns with PrSM could derail a private company JV), or a private corporation.

Ideally if Canada had bought into FMTV the gun plumbers and FCS folks would have gotten 2 each and the Vehicle folks could have had FMTV bases to work on not needing the complete HIMARS setup.

What's the Australian business case for their 90 vs our business case for 26?

Both very large land masses with massive coastlines.
Both have no land borders with any potential enemies.
So, why their 90 vs our 26? Is it simply down to Canadian shortcutting or is there really more to it.

Is this a done deal and we can start printing patches or is this still transaction pending?

Australia is a long way from the nearest allies and China is close. They have no choice but to take defence of the homeland more seriously than Canada.

And like us, is realizing how unreliable the US is becoming.

Technically pending first final US approval, which ive heard December for that, with first payment in jan. With the official deal with Lockmart inked in spring

You keep telling yourself that.
Snippet below from the article:

"says Australia would need to massively increase its defence spending or accept it can't defend its own sovereignty.

"If you look at the mismatch between the scale of our territory and the scale of our ability to defend it — it's one of the most glaring mismatches in the world," he says."

One can easily alter a single word in these sentences to apply to us.
