Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

I gotta say- Roshel has come along way in the past few years and is beginning to make a pretty big splash on the Canadian Defence scene.

Having a domestic producer of ballistic steel again will be huge for us.
Does the ballistic steel used in the LAV's coming out of London come from the US?

The article says "The company signed an agreement with Swedish steel producer Swebor on Monday to manufacture ballistic-grade steel in Canada", so I assume it will be made here.

Go Stelco! ;)

Great stuff. Its looking less and less likely with every announcement that Roshel won't win LUV. They're checking all of the boxes. Canadian built, Canadian inputs, battle tested, etc.

I would like them to get the LUV/PMV contract.

I would prefer that they not get the DAME contract as well. Hopefully Joly comes back with something on BAE Hagglunds - BVS10 and/or CV90.

I agree on BV. No chance we're getting CV90s though unfortunately. Not when GDLS has tracked AFVs they're trying to sell. Mark my words, they'll be offering Ajax/ASCOD built in Canada if we go that route.

I suppose it could be worse. The ASCOD is operated by the Austrians and Spanish and Latvia, the country we are supporting, has also adopted the Spanish ASCOD.

Which will be built in Latvia by the Finnish company Patria. And Finland is also on Joly's agenda.

....

It might not hurt to spread the wealth.

Canada did not bad out of WW2, being the supplier of cheese, wheat, CMP trucks, Lancasters and Mosquitos, Brens and Brownings.

A Patria, Saab, Nammo and Hagglunds factory in Canada would be a nice strategic backstop for the Scandinavians and Balts.
