pardon me, but it is a purpose built system. Just because the frame comes from Ford doesn't lessen the utility of the system nor does it instantly place the homebuilt label on it. It is as the article said the most common vehicle in Ukraine. The why for that is probably a simple matter of economics. If I have a constrained budget and need as many vehicles as possible to provide a reasonable amount of protection it is a logical choice. And who is the better judge? Ukraine has tried every western vehicle on the used car lot. They love the Swedish product and the Roshel the Lav not so much. They don't refuse them but I don't think they have ordered any either. There are a lot of other reports on them and other vehicles in that sort of family.
It’s a Ford 550.
With an armored kit added.
One would be much better off with a purpose built system.
Additionally, Europe isn’t the place to make or sell Ford 550’s.
The LAV has a lot of variants that GDLS has done here in the Stryker 2.0 family.
Variants that are much better suited for that role than some of the European players.
I’m not a fan of the LAV as an ISC/IFV/front line combat vehicle - but it does have a bunch of benefits for things like
CUAS
MSHORAD
DESHORAD
EW
Mortar
CB Radar etc
2nd line Medical Transport
Those roles it’s 1,000,000 better then the Senator
