NB's CANDU was 660 MW, a Suffren Class Submarine has a 150 MW. Im sure they can deliver small output reactors if the market and investment is there. Werent the old SLOWPOKE supposed to be scalable to 10-20?

yeah i dont think the proposed SLOWPOKES were ever built to that enlarged capacityThe Saskatoon Slowpoke had Total, or Thermal, output of 20 kW and the first Chalk River Slowpoke was 5 kW.
Not MW but kW. Enough for 5 houses or a small business.
I don't think the technology is a problem. The cost and commercial feasibility is likely to be the issue.
But it needs to be measured against the alternatives - fuel deliveries or powerlines.
In the 50s Saskatchewan electrified as a matter of government policy at a cost the farmers didn't want.
It appealed to the women and kids and kept them down on the farm instead of running off to the bright lights.
Have you been to rural Saskatchewan? I don’t think worked in keeping anyone on the farm…The Saskatoon Slowpoke had Total, or Thermal, output of 20 kW and the first Chalk River Slowpoke was 5 kW.

My wife's folks are from Willow Bunch. They moved to Saskatoon about the time of the electrification programme.Have you been to rural Saskatchewan? I don’t think worked in keeping anyone on the farm…
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.Apparently the Army Sergeant Major figured out the answer to retention.
Remind people why they joined.

It probably works for folks folks on a first BE (or whatever they are now) to get them to sign another. But I agree it probably isn’t going to appeal to those with 10+ years in service.I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not.
The reason I joined is not why I'm still in 20 years later, as I accomplished everything I joined for almost a decade ago.
Yup. The things that attract you in your late teens or early 20s can still be pretty fun, but also really hurt past your late 30s or early 40s. The more stable and predictable managerial roles tend to be less hard on the body and in many ways less hard on the family. It probably works for folks folks on a first BE (or whatever they are now) to get them to sign another. seems to small for the SMR's so far. Need something from 1MW to 10MW. Not 300MW or 150List of all fossil fuel electrical generating stations in the Northwest Territories.

Just for a sense of the scale of the problem. The sum of all those plants is 73 MWe.
As noted on the submarine thread a single Suffren would generate is publicly rated at 150 MW. Even if that is total thermal capacity and electrical capacity is only 33% of that (50 MW) one Suffren would power most of the Northwest Territories. Or perhaps it would be better to say the fuel would. Transmission lines and losses work against central power generation.
The equivalent of 12 Suffren reactors - 12x 150 MWth = 1800 MWth (600 MWe + 1200 MWth) would transform the Arctic.
....
45.000 people in the NWT alone spread over 1.3 million km2.
41,000 people in Nunavut spread over 2 million km2
47,000 people in Yukon spread over 0.5 million km2

Need a phased plasma rifle in the 40W range.seems to small for the SMR's so far. Need something from 1MW to 10MW. Not 300MW or 150
That too.Need a phased plasma rifle in the 40W range.
What was the actual statement? I don't think I saw it.Im not sure what his intent for that statement was.
Maybe forget about all the bad stuff cause you joined to protect Canada, elbows up?
