Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

WENG: At least we're not as messed up as MARTECH
Honestly, being on ship the trade progression is working now (with hiccups). However we are very short people. So yah, not as messed up as them. We didn't have their mass exodos due to screwy trade reorg.

I'm no longer 'in trade' as I'm now a 00355 NCM GS, as 00366-08 doesn't exist in the PRes.

However.

I did bump into the fleet CSEC last week at a retirement function, and apparently I still show up on his dashboard somehow.

I simply think security patrols doesn’t have to be conventional police. But this brings us full circle into a force protection thread again.

Which is being addressed with a new Security Forces trade being stood up. I agree with you. Now would be a good time to discuss separating policing from security.

On the topic of security at bases, should our ID cards include biometrics in the future?

Start with something like the American CAC. I hate having an ID card that sits in my wallet and a PKI that I have to remember to pack away everyday and a building pass. One card to rule them all in the US. I loved that when I was down there.

It’s ok, those Chinese students will just attend Uni here at Waterloo, Toronto, UBC, Queens, McGill.

And? There's a big difference between being employed by a government agency (that also does work on highly sensitive technologies) and attending university. Any faculty member at those schools working on any classified material (which is exceptionally rare in Canada) still has to follow normal security regulations. Including screening all personnel with access to that material.

Not sure where to put this, but has anyone else heard about this, Japan sending fighters to Canada for the first time ever (as well as to Europe)

Japan to dispatch F-15s to Europe, Canada for 1st time

Well, maybe not quite the first time they've flown offensive weapons in our airspace ;)

Ah the joys of departmental transfers. I remember when we got shuffled off from TC to DFO and the months of confusion.

Heads up to all current staff/seagoing personnel - I called EAP yesterday and was told that they don't serve us anymore because we're not DFO.

The new provider is Homewood Health. You can register for an account at Homeweb | Client Portal by Homewood Health to access services or by calling them directly (you'll need a code, see below). The contact numbers for the DND EAP are below.
English: 1-800-663-1142, or 1-888-384-1152 (for people with hearing impairments).
French: 1-866-398-9505, or 1-866-433-3305 (for people with hearing impairments).

Tell them you're with DND; I said was with CCG and they were confused. I told them about the merger and they'll spread the word amongst their staff.

You will get a person on the phone 24/7 for immediate counselling or a referral to other supports. If you are currently in counselling through the old EAP, you can continue with your current provider until the case is closed.

For the invitation code, account setup instructions, and a booklets showing the resources available, check the Mental Health page on SeaReady if you're seagoing (search the homepage menu). I'll look into spreading the word shoreside too.
