I mean, the typical war vet grandpa trope on TV today seems to reference Vietnam. But if you were to produce a new sitcom about a 30-something couple with young school aged kids, then the kids would be COVID babies while the parents would have been born early to mid ninties, and Grandpa would be a Gulf War vet ... and that Gulf War vet might have had a grandpa who fought at Normandy.

If the Gulf War Vet was 30 in 1990, it's more likely their own dad was a WWII vet. It's mostly millennials (80s and early 90s) and late Gen X (70s) who had veteran grandparents.

Nah. The Gulf War vet’s parents were born in the late thirties. They were in public school when Pearl Harbour was bombed … Grandpa will talk about it in the third episode of season 2.

Rumoured to be 10x what we are paying in. But that's largely because of how the UK plays in the European defence market already.
 
That is certainly more than 10x. I'm seeing signals from Euro defence industry that they are starting to move some production to Canada for some things. Or maybe that's just the media picking up on it more than before, so I'm getting confirmation bias.

I hope that the entire SAFE initiative turns out to be a lot more robust than a number of Euro companies adding some limited in size/scope new CDN branch plants here. I'd love to see the rise of at least 1 truly Canadian (meaning majority owned by Canadians) defense firm rise up and begin to become a global supplier of whatever their product(s) is/are. We really don't need a bunch of 'Fords' or 'Toyotas' or 'Starbucks' set up again in Canada. It's nice but in the end it doesn't strengthen our own abilities or sovereignty, unless of course we nationalise them in times of war.

Rochel seems to be positioning it self well to potentially do that, especially with having a Ukrainian and Canadian production line, both countries are involved with SAFE. GD could benefit as well when it comes to electronics and sub systems.

What they are doing with their Senator is pretty much what SAAB is doing with the Bombardier plane, though I'm sure they are making more $$ on the IP side than Roshel is.

Roshel buys a bare Ford F550 chassis and transforms it. SAAB buys bare Bombardier Global 6500 planes and transforms it.

Europe still suffers from the same problems that plagues the middle east and Africa: too many people in too close proximity for too long breeds too many fault lines. And too many resistant strains.

France Germany is only the start of it.
Saxons and Bavarians.
Vlaams and Wallons.
Franks and Occitans.
Alsatians and Loringians.

And we haven't touched those exemplars of stability, the Spaniards, the Italians and the Cntons of Swizerland with their four languages and multiple religious schools.

Co-operation does not come naturally to that mob. Just take a look at their air industry as an example.

Yep. Which also tells you what we'll getting. Not much for 10 mil. I don't get why people treating this as some huge gamechanger for us.

Industrial deals don't have anything to do with ethnic rivalry. The French and Germans aren't getting along on FCAS because Dassault and Airbus have very different ideas about workshare and who should be in charge. The French are notorious for this.

I suspect its viewed by some that way because it is an open door we can choose to open further, or close as we wish. Before the deal, the door was essentially closed.

The EU as a block is about the same size economically as America. Greater access to another giant trade partner is not a bad thing in any way.

Im personally hoping some access to CV90 and Leo 2 queues open up for our troubles
