Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Which is funny because they culturally have a war fighting tradition.

But they have become a very left leaning progressive country...

I think since the revolution and civil war, they took a turn to pacifism and a rejection of imperialism. They probably don’t have to worry too much about becoming the target of anyone’s imperialist adventures either, unless the UK goes full psycho and elects Nigel’s group of weirdos and he decides to put the Empire back together.

MEGA! 🤣 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

With no potatoes, and nothing else of value, is Ireland worth invading?

At one time it was fashionable to expand one's land borders, but with industry and technology making that passe, why bother with Ireland at all? Weak beer and imitation Scotch? 😉

Well there's the huge, naturally occurring gold reserves...

In 2008 a major discovery was announced near Clontibret, estimated at 500,000 troy ounces (16,000 kg). The mining is run by Conroy Gold and Natural Resources and Anglo Asian Mining.[18] Total resources could be as high as 20,000,000 troy ounces (620 t).

Are these regular gold reserves, or leprechaun gold reserves?

The Brits are hammering the Cadets hard trying to shake out recruits.

Whenever I see the Brit cadets I see well equipped, well supported young adults on the way to learning military skills.

Whenever I see Canadian cadets I see a collection of kids playing around the edges of being perceived as not too military so as not to scare the public.

I like what I see in the Brits.

The UK is the only country in Europe that allows people under the age of 18 to join the Armed Forces. Each year, around a third of all new Army joiners are aged 16 or 17 – officially classed as children under UK law.

If 1/3 are between 16 & 17 when they enlist, I'd love to see the stats on their retainment/reenlistment vs the 2/3 over the age of 18 who enlist.

I trained Junior Soldiers in the UK at Depot PARA for about a year, once upon a time.

If you look at the SNCO ranks a large proportion of them got their start as Junior Soldiers.

Like this guy, who goes on and on about how much Junior PARA did for him...

It must have been the extra milk ration we administered to each Junior Soldier ;)

That Newgrange building that was built about 3100 BC. Its white walls looked pretty impressive. It was faced from tbe quartz waste fro mt gold mine down the road.
