If CAF is using public college to augment or supplement in-house training, and it can exercise a sufficient level of control on the curriculum, then that's good. Concepts such as augmentation is different than 'handing over to', and maybe I was missing the details.
In terms of actual trade certification/qualification, it has been mentioned on here before that it would be beneficial for a military trade that has a civilian equivalent to be able to certify those members so that they can carry them over to civilian life.
That is where the Red Seal program has been important. What it really interesting are the small changes each province has or had incorporated to keep their specific chunk of the pie safe from outside recruiting for many years. Even to this day not all trades and or training are recognized across the Country. This includes Professional jobs such as Drs, Nurses Paramedics/. EMTs.I realize the complication f most certifications being province-based.
A pre-OFP school should really have very limited specific CAF content. Most of it is specific to the trade and broadly specific to the entire branch or service.
Dealing with Munitions and their systems, along with secure equipment, afterburners Other than that very little difference.I fail to see what an AVN would learn at CFSATE that wouldn't be taught at a civilian college.
Turbines are turbines, hydraulic actuators are still actuators.
DND does not teach reciprocating engines.
But we did get taught how to use these fancy Borescopes That when I talked to a few guys outside of the Military were blown away that we even had them as they were cost prohibitive for many companies.
They use to have to take the same course as everyone else. Not sure what they have done with the program.Heck, how much gap training do we do today for AMEs who walk in off the street?
That is all a Course is Trades training course is suppose to do. Is give a general skill set so the person can work in an industry safely..So really, people need to stop acting like a no-hook private is getting extensive military training at CFSATE. They are mostly getting an education that is comparable to the civilian world. Borden produces a product that the fleet can then mold using fleet specific training.
