Canada should join the (nuclear) big leagues

Canada was a nuclear weapons user, not a holder back in the day.

We got weapons from US Stock piles, and they were only to be issued to us to basically put on the planes, or on the Honest Johns.

I recall in the late 80s the hype of the 'Nuclear Submarines' that were in the offing to us, there were MANY Canadians who didn't know the difference between nuclear powered, and nuclear armed.

I suspect that today many still do not, and the media would probably not make it clear in any of their coverage.

Canada is a first world nation, with industry and manufacturing capable of creating nuclear weapons. I'm certain we've got both the skills and knowledge.

Canada, however, lacks the political will to do so, nor the defense imperative to force us to do so.

We will, however, continue to reside under the umbrella of US coverage and deterrence, whilst at the same time decrying their various ills in such ways to make ourselves feel smug and better.
I wonder if the scenario could ever occur where it’s ‘English’ Canada saying ‘yes’ to our internal development of them and Quebec steadfastly refusing them.
