Currently only in the French news it seems, here is a link...

For those that don‘t understand, it states that the Canadian Forces have amassed a half billion dollard det and may be forced to close bases across Canada... including Bagotville, Goose Bay, North Bay and Winnipeg.

It also states the base in Trenton may be forced to close in the next 10 years if the aging C-130‘s are not modernised.

...Personally I think it just a media scare, but hopefully this sparks more funding.

Total collapse? Wow that‘s very convienient. I want to join for 20+ years make a career out of this. Is the CF really going to collapse? If they close all these bases, then we have over crowded bases correct? What do people think will happen. Assume the CF collapses and it becomes non-existent what happens to members that plan on making careers in the CF? Are they just beat? And well, back to civy life...Or do you think it will spark a huge burst of mass funding? This is bs.

It other news, the military is issuing a recall for pointed sticks recently issued to the military in place of rifles. "Canada is a country with a lot of trees", said General Bloggins, "We simply can‘t be giving out things that should be readily available to anyone in Canada. There are after all, costs to consider."

The Prime Minister‘s office was unavailable for comment, although Groupe Action assures this reporter that "everything is fine in Canada, and the Liberals are doing a great job. Why don‘t you come out for lunch with us, and we can discuss it? We‘ll pay. We seem to have come into a great deal of money recently".

No official word has been received about rumours that the Canadian Forces plans to almagamate all existing bases into the new "SuperBase" at NDHQ. This SuperBase will feature fully gender-integrated facilities (including a spa, LeMaze instruction, sensitivity training areas and counselling rooms) and areas for stress relief and relaxation. Officers‘ quarters will be upgraded to include servants, in-suite kitchenettes, and full computer network integration. Wasteful storage areas, formerly used to house ammunition and explosives, will be converted into swimming pools, drop-in centres and meeting rooms. "At last", says an unnamed source in the Forces, "we can concentrate on things that are really important in the modern era. The old days of violence are done".

The preceding "article" is satire. It‘s better than sitting on the floor sobbing about the sad state of the country. :crybaby:

Ya that was pretty funny...not. Could we even be a country with no armed forces? Or will they just get rid of reservists or something if money is so tight?

Seems the original story was originally in the National Post this morning...

Ottawa is denying wanting to close the base in Bagotville. (Which is the most emphisize base to be closed in the previous article.)

This is Rediculousm another reason why the LIBERALS cant be voted back into power, all they do is cut cut cut of defense budget abd spend spend spend and loose money on stupid ****.

If these bases closes, what does this do for New rectuites waiting for their date for basic.

Man i am so pissed, i didnt even type Properly in my last post because i am so mad at this Bull Crap, Just when i thought the Government was begining to be on the right track (a very small track) by buying new G-wagons and 1200 new trucks, and a bid for 30 new Helicopters, this crap happens. Nothing will change unless "we" the general public start making formal complaints about this ****, our government doesnt give a flying crap about our Military......

Arggg i am so mad right now!!!!

Hey..Ok I have a somewhat of a more understanding about this situation. Here is a link http://www.cfra.com/headlines/index.asp?cat=2&nid=11096 if that doesnt show up or something because I don‘t know how to do it..I just copy and pasted it..Basically we are over spending, not in debt. We have an annual budget, and the Army alone spent over 200million this year. So to make up for the money, they are going to be docking ships and cancelling expensive operations and stuff like that. The worst case scenario is closing bases for a while I think, or permanently to make up for the money that was over spent. So basically whoever is in charge of spending our money on our equipment and stuff, is just spending it and rebelling against our stupid liberal goverment haha. So we aren‘t in debt, we have just spent too much. :) Think that solves a few things...I hope. Our military isn‘t on the verge of collapsing, the guys who buy the stuff are over spending because we have to, and they are sick of our ‘budget.‘ :salute: Salute to them.

We wouldnt be haveing this problem if we had a defense budget that was at least equal to other nato countrys. 1.1% of GDP is nothing compared to 2.1% averAGE GDP of nato countrys.

Defence Minister, Pratt, just said they will NOT be closeing the bases. You can find links on google :p

Well hopefully we can put these fears to rest now...Globe and Mail has the latest from the Minister

Just because they say it now doesn‘t mean anything later. Ie. Chretien (sp) saying how he would get rid of the GST. I haven‘t read the article but Dundern in SK is a waste of space.

It is the Ammo dump for Western Canada. What are you thinking? I suppose we won‘t need ammo in the near future, so I guess you could have something...

Dude have you been there. I am aware of its purpose but I‘m sure one of the other western bases good do the job.

Besides you wouldn‘t know it held ammo with the amount or lack there of that we got last year.

It was my first experience as a Militiaman on GMT and then Basic Gnr back in 1970. Those old condemned H huts were condemned back then and are still in use today, as far as I know, Only one place with more sand and that is Shilo. They finally tore down the H Huts that we stayed in (in Shilo) 2000. Yeah, I‘ve been there. The ‘Gomer Pyle‘ quansent huts are still standing in Wainwright too.

As for another Base doing the job, most are too close to major populations to house that amount of ammo. Dundurn is a fair distance still from Saskatoon. Wainwright or Shilo may do, but then there would be less Federal and/or DND ‘representation‘ in Saskatchewan. PEI is the only provimce today with no Military Bases, and it has some effect on the socio-economic situation on the Island, not to mention political.

Dundurn‘s a GREAT place!
Toon Town‘s half hour away!
Great hunting on base.Loaded with deer!!!! :soldier:

Great for map march‘s!
You lose all sense of distance after humping up and down all those old bomb crater‘s from WW2.
Yup was an old bombing range for the Bomber Training base out of Moose Jaw.

Those fire break‘s are just ducky for those 12k ruck march‘s! :crybaby:

Spent 3 month‘s there back in 95.
