I'll see if I can find the graphic of current USN carrier availability. That and their incompetence in getting a replacement for the OHPs is really starting to put a strain on resources. On the plus side, that means the Trump class BB should never see the light of day!

Fleet Status Overview (As of August 1, 2026)
During this period, the fleet followed a standard rotation across 11 commissioned nuclear supercarriers: [1]

• Deployed in Active Zones: Three carriers were actively deployed to support high-priority global missions:
  • USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) were both actively stationed within the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility to maintain a heavy dual-carrier presence in the Middle East.
  • USS George Washington (CVN-73) was stationed forward-deployed in the Western Pacific, operating out of Japan. [1, 2, 3]
• In Port / Working Up: Three carriers were at their respective domestic homeports undergoing training or working up for upcoming sea trials:
  • USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), which wrapped up its planned incremental maintenance availability to modernize its internal spaces and weapons systems.
  • USS Nimitz (CVN-68), which officially transitioned to its new long-term homeport at Naval Station Norfolk.
  • USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), preparing for its upcoming rotation sequence. [1, 2, 3, 4]
• Refit / Deep Maintenance Overhauls: Four carriers were unavailable for active deployment due to planned yard cycles:
  • USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69), and the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) (undergoing its extensive mid-life Refueling and Complex Overhaul - RCOH). [1]
• Under Construction: Future Ford-class carriers—including the John F. Kennedy (CVN-79), Enterprise (CVN-80), and Doris Miller (CVN-81)—were in active assembly phases at Newport News Shipbuilding. [1]

So, once Abe gets back she'll unavailable for an extended periord (depending on refit cycle, etc), Washington going to the ME leaves no carriers in the Pacific. Nimitz was scheduled to be deactivated by now but she is going to be extended longer.

IIRC, it's because the USS John F. Kennedy should have been in operational trials by now but is still at the yard, delayed by about a year and a half, more if they go by the recent E.O. and replace the EMALS by steam at the president's request - which I don't know if they intend on. However, that ought to delay the next ones some because it's an important redesign, not just a little switcheroo, as you have to design and fit a steam pathway from the engine room to the catapults and the steam ones take more room, so a whole new flight deck config.
