AKI, Italy
Kabul, 16 Dec. (AKI) - A car bomb exploded in the Afghan capital Kabul on Friday killing the suicide attacker and injuring two people. The blast occured near the building where Afghanistan's first parliament in more than 30 years is due to hold its first session on Monday. According to reports the explosion, which damaged a NATO peacekeeping vehicle, happened on a road between the Kabul zoo and the former King's palace in the west of the capital city.
There have been several suicide attacks in Afghanistan this year and more than 1,400 people have been killed in the escalating violence. The Taliban fighters have claimed responsibility for the previous suicide attacks attacks.
The Taliban guerillas did however fail in their vow to disrupt the September 18 elections which led to the formation of the new parliament.
The meeting of the new assembly is a culmination of a process to bring democracy to the war-ravaged country four years after the fall of the hardline Taliban regime.
