just purchased a new set of US army (belleville)boots, and I am very please with the comfort and fit. I was wondering since the introduction of the new CDN combat uniform, has there been new boots as well? The reason I ask, when I was at the AUSA convention in Washington D.C. a couple of weeks ago I saw several CDN soldiers wearing the old pigskin boots...by choice maybe?

yeah, we got some new gortex ones with our new combats. we even got the new temprate weather boots in CADPAT. the guys you saw probably were wearing the old ones out of preference.

I believe the cadpat boots are supposed to be standard issue, once they get enough.

The hard part is going to be finding cadpat shoe polish. The colours keep smearing when you rub it on...

I was under the impression that the CADPAT colour scheme was dropped. Besides they‘d just use a clear polish like mink oil (but not mink oil per se) to keep them up.

i dont think gunnar was serious with his comment on the colours smearing with the CADPAT boot polish. by the way sherwood nice boots.

I was reading the Toronto Sun a couple weeks ago and there was an article about a "future soldier" program that the US is running, is that the same thing as Objective Force Warrior?

The talked about such things as "smart bullets" and HUD‘s and reactive body armour that is thing like a sheet but when it is hit is extremely hard or something to that effect. They said they;; be done in 2010.

It all seems pretty far-fetched to me.. Do you know anything about that sherwood?

okay...

computerization to a certain level is understandable, but IMHO, technology is taking the whole personal aspect out of war... It‘s going to be robots against robots, controlled by some general who‘s playing a RTS, and eventually wins the war

(farfetched, i know... but pretty soon, we‘re going to be obsolete)

The CADPAT Temperate Weather boot is not standard issue. It has not even been awarded a contractor yet, so if it is even still to be produced, which I think it is, it has not been put to production. I have not even heard of any trial being conducted.

I don‘t know, I participated in the boot trial and for the most part they were pretty well liked. The ones I tried out were probably in the top 3 of most comfortable boots I‘ve ever worn. \

There were issues with durability and the cadpat design wearing off(leather not dyed all the way through). But quality can be worked on. They work great in the field(which is the only place you‘ll see them. Soldiers wearing them blended in quite nicely with surroundings and through NVG‘s they were miles better than black boots.

I agree they are ugly but they are a field piece of kit and it‘s not like it‘ll be our day to day boots:)
