Changing Entry Plan

My initial plan was to join the regs with my primary choice being 811MP, and my secondary being 031. However, when I handed in my application on 04/07/04, the Recruiter informed me that I need a post secondary education in order to qualify for reg force 811. So, I‘m in line to enter the reg force as an 031 which is fine, however I believe I would succeed more as an MP.

My question is, is it too late for me to contact the CFRC and change entry plans? I‘ve been doing a lot of thinking and 811 is my ultimate goal in the Military. So, I was thinking of joining the Reserves as an 811MP (instead of 031 reg) while taking a Police Science course at my local College. After graduation, I would remuster. The problem is, my application is probably already being processed, and my test date is on 04/29/04.

Your assistance with this matter is greatly appreciated!

In regards to the Police Science course ( I took Police Studies at Grant McEwan in Edmonton here; graduated last year) I was told to finish up the course before applying to become a MP. Me, being impatient, decided to go ahead with my application and become a Signals Operator. I‘m pretty sure you can change your (or hopefully try to at least) MO after BMQ. I‘m was going to try and do the same thing but I doubt it...so I‘ll just switch further on down the road.

Good luck.

Brin, I was referring to the CFAT, interview, and medical testing. I apologize, I should have been more specific.

Jason, thank you for your information regarding Police studies. My reason for wanting to join as a reserve MP is I do not need a post secondary education to do so, and it would be the perfect job to have while attending a Police Science course... Not only would it give me experience as an MP, but it would also compliment my studies.

My only worry with going 031 reg is I may not have the time for College with training and courses and such. Also, attending school and doing the military full time might swamp me out a bit, and since Infantry isn‘t quite related to Police studies, doing one might make me forgetful in another. Thus, affecting my performances in both areas.

The last thing I want to do is waste the Military‘s time, money, and space by doing something that might be best suited to someone else. That is why I‘m asking if it is too late to change entry plans and MO‘s.

Once again, your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Bandit, I to am in the same boat as you. I really want to be an MP or municiple police officer down the road. Have you been to an info session for reserve MP. I have and its nothing like its counter part in the reg force. They have 2 completely different duties. this is the reason I didnt go this route. I have decided to go reg force 031 inf and do a criminal justice program while i am there. Your recruitment officer will be more then happy to talk to you about the benefits you will recieve in the reg force as far as education goes. Its called PERSONAL ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM, if you want to look it up at www.dnd.ca

Wow! Thank you, soon to be. I didn‘t know a program such as that existed! I will be visiting my CFRC tomorrow and requesting more information regarding the Personal Enhancement Program. Once again, thank you for bringing that to my attention!

As for reserve MP, I just finished talking to a friend who is a serving member and he advised me to do the same, continue with the reg force Infantry and forget about reserve MP... Looks like I‘ll be sticking with the regs.

Not that your idea of reserves is bad at all, both I think are very good ideas on your part. Just talk to the recruiter before you make your choice and good luck!!.

Here‘s a direct link to the Personal Enhancement Program.
