hello;
      Just wondering about changing elements during basic training or moving from reserve to regular force once basic training is underway.
I have intentions on persuing a naval reseve trade ( still waiting patiently for my interview) but if I enjoy the combat arms end of the BMT training I might want to take things in another direction. Will the military allow me to do this?

Please read the Recruiting FAQs and please try and post in the appropriate forum next time.

Burrows by adding please before your comments doesn't make them seem any less dictatorial. This was chrisferg's first posting and the admin. forum probally seemed like the place to post. The post had already been moved then you jump on him. For a new member education on the way the board works is far better. The way things are phrased can make a difference. Maybe something like this:

"You can find your answers in Recruiting FAQs. This post was moved to Recruiting as this was felt to be a better place for it."

Best Wishes

Ps: Welcome to site chrisferg.

Yea but it happens so often that I wouldn't be surprised if they had a "newbie" button that auto replies to the message.

As previously mentioned.........that little "staff" symbol on the left by your user name is not a licence to be an ass........

Anyways, to answer the original question,

It is possible to change trades anytime, it all starts with writing a memo and going through your chain of command. However, it is alot more complicated and time-consuming to do so once you are already in the military, so, if possible, make up your mind before starting training. I"m guessing if you want to do so now, just inform someone at the CFRC and they'll get the ball rolling.

Good luck.

This is very true, it took me 10 years to be able to apply for OT and when i did it took a year to get an answer !

Im still confused as to why it should take so much more time once youve already cleared so many of the initial hurdles to move around....

*sigh*.

But yes, Ive been told time and time again that a VR and a re-enroll is the best method to make drastic enrollement changes.
