Chinese Military,Political and Social Superthread

Let's be honest here. You don't really care about the environment.
That is an assumption made. I wonder what supporting documents and or research you have to back that up?
Somehow, I doubt you were protesting in the era when we used leaded gasoline and had smog days.
Funny I was still in School then, I do not think I was driving much during that time frame. But I remember the big discussions about it. I remember some of the issues with the new fuel causing issues with engines at the time. Some people using Av Gas and or lead additive.
So really, this is just politicized BS because you've watched enough YouTube brain rot that you've been convinced that a solar panel is more of an imminent threat than a tailpipe.
LOL, assume lots.
An off side question for you. Do you vote liberal or Ndp?
I do watch hydrology of solar farms on neighboring lands to see a change in drainage and absorption rates. The effect of plants, wildlife and surrounding areas. It is pretty interesting the effects both positive and negative depending on the previous situations one was dealing with.
But really, what would be nice is people who claim to believe in property rights letting owners do what they want on their property.
Funny a few of my Neighbors have solar installed I never said anything to them about property rights. Again you assume so much, yet have not a clue. I have asked them how well it works. They have not come to a verdict after a couple of years.
You don't like solar and wind?
LOL, If I could install a wind turbine above my house I would have had one years ago. Very few days where its not windy here.
Perfectly okay. You should not be allowed to stop your neighbour from installing them.
Never have and never will stop thm. Again you assume so much yet don't have an actual clue about me in anyway shape or form other then your misguided assumption.

Nor the environment it seems.

If memory serves, proposals offshore of Toronto and Prince Edward County foundered at least in part to the 'visual pollution' objection. I believe Ontario still has a moratorium in place but I could be wrong.

Which may be true but at least we have a society where dissent is allowed.
Can you just imagine what would happen to this country - our valleys, mountains, forests - when China gains full control over the government.
Oh wait…

Cool. Then we don't need to worry about strategic competition and increasing defence spending then.
I never said that anywhere, China's collapse means political/economic and military chaos and then a resurgence of a new version of China. What that will look like is dependent on who is in charge, with Xi, his neck would be very much on the line, so military adventures are the way to extend his lifespan. With Zhang and the CCP, attempting to do business as usual and dealing with internal turmoil, sort of a slow motion crash landing. The goal of Xi is to maintain Xi, the goal of the CCP is to maintain the CCP control over the country.

It's kinda funny that the biggest solar and wind boom in the US is in Texas. They thought less regulation would bring more gas plants. Turns out that deregulation favours projects that are quick to build and have a lower capital barrier.

its not funny at all. It is what it should be. If solar, wind, EVs everything surrounding the renewal era is valid it should be mature enough to stand on its own without enormous subsidies. If they can't live without subsidies then they need to be closed down. I agree that startups needed a push but they have had enough of a push to be able to live on their own as perhaps they have discovered in Texas. I also know that traditional things have benefited from government interference as well by the way. No one, not even my parents when I first started out gave me 5 grand to buy a car. They loaned me 4 at 8% and so it should be.

Apparently between lower wind costs and reduced demand for natural gas it's saved them £104 billion. I don't have the time or energy to do any kind of deep dive but some quick googling shows £0.03-0.06 per kwh in wind generating costs vs £0.04-0.08 for gas.

Countries and companies all over are increasing investment in wind and solar, although certain parties seem ideologically opposed (and seem to want to bring back the good ol' days of child labourers getting black lung in the coal mines) even where solar/wind makes sense. Meanwhile even China, while it expands coal capacity has reduced it's consumption and expanded wind and solar. Even places like Saudi Arabia and the UAE are starting to invest heavily into solar and wind now, both aiming for 40-50% of power generation in the coming decades.

People have been talking about China collapsing seemingly forever. While I hope Xi get's outed and a more reasonable replacement comes in I have strong doubts about China having any kind of collapse or other major issues. Re: the tariff situation - Chinese manufacturing has grown, while the US' has declined, so it doesn't to be working as advertised. Meanwhile the US has driven many others to make friendly with China in regards to trade again where they were supporting US efforts before.
According to my google, electricity in the UK is 27.69p/kWh.

A price that is largely set by natural gas in their market. What Seyek is referring to is wind helping substantially blunt the skyrocketing prices after Feb 2022. This could have been a lot, lot worse:

US manufacturing output has been increasing. Manufacturing employment has been declining. China isn't the only country automating and doing more with fewer people.
