I would like to put together a civvie version of the three sock system being issued right now.  The last PDS track I went on was hell on my feet.  Can someone post what each layer is made out of?  Plus whatever tips for better foot health in general would be appreciated...

You mean like a base sock, and an insulating sock? You can find lots of variants and styles at outdoor stores like MEC, and other outfitters. The base socks are usually made of a poly fibre that can wick moisture and sweat away from your skin. The insulating sock is usually a heavier sock made of polyester again, or sometimes wool.

Sock Liner:
78% Tetra-channel Polyester
20% Nylon
2% Spandex

Sock Temperate:
60% Wool
40% Nylon

Cold Weather Sock:
78% Wool
21% Nylon
1% Spandex

Cheers

An  easy way would be to go into "The Running Room" and pick up a few pairs, as they sell ones that are double layered to prevent blisters etc.

Thanks for the input... my cold combo is a Wigwam Gobi sock liner, with a Wigwam Ice sock (80 % wool).

But I am looking for further input.  I see that the Temperate sock is listed as being 60% wool.  Wigwam has a sock that is 50% wool, and they list it as their 40 Below sock.  Sounds awfully hot.  How do you you find the liner sock and the Temperate sock combo in the summer?  I'll go to a lower level of wool if I have to, but I'm staying right away from any cotton content.

you can find various types of *InGenius and *Smartsock brand socks at lots of stores also, they do basically the same thing with one layer

Ive used the 40 below sock with no liner all year round and found it to be very comfortable. my current favorites are the Fox River Military Blisterguard boot sock, and the Smartwool MGenius medium weight hiking socks. both are groovy on the feets.

Ahead of you there.  Wearing a set of Ingenius socks right now.  Certainly comfortable, but I still find when I am doing hard work in the bush, I get blisters with just one sock.

ahh, seen. the helly hanson Polypro liner socks are very comfortable as a liner, as are the fox river blisterguard liner socks.

During my crew commander's course this past winter I wore my breathable Magnum stealths and my Ingenius grey hiking socks!! And that's in Gagetown in the back/turret of a Coyote!!  My feet only got dang cold once or twice.  Without the sweating I found that they stayed much more comfy than the WWB or the mukluks the other guys wore.. to each his own!
