Although with the Canadian Government you never know…It was sarcasm

Those guys don’t care about time on type, at least for the pilots. They train everyone from scratch anyway. They’re more than happy to take someone with any military time. For a small operator that’s concerned about the cost of the type rating it would matter. The P8 will be a nice pipeline for pilots and techs to transfer into WJ, AC or any other airline that operates the 737.
Put your tin foil on.Bombardier’s president and CEO, Éric Martel, released a statement in late December 2022 expressing concern over reports that Canada is considering awarding a sole-source contract to U.S. aerospace giant Boeing for the Canadian Multi-Mission Aircraft (CMMA) project.
Martel noted that if a CMMA tender were to be open to “diverse proposals,” it would offer Canada the opportunity to “rethink its surveillance capabilities.”

Ya let's go with a purchase of a non-existent aircraft that won't have SFA in common with our Allies.
"rethink" = lower?
Well...you did say "put your tinfoil on".Put your tin foil on.
This has the feel of a set up. Quebec Inc. and the family (plus JT) are prepping the battlefield.
Bombardier, the Family and the Quebec Libs and PM are still mad at Boeing.
Bombardier now freed of the No Weapons biz agreements want a piece of the action.
A Global based MPA is now going to be needed to be looked at. This does a couple of things it pushes the purchase out years and may be even too late for the P-8. Thus puts a stop to a Boeing purchase. A global option may or may not be armed. The non armed is a good outcome for this government.
Now with this out in the open to give Boeing the contract is a non starter. The process would have to have a RFP and open specs just like the rebid of the SAR bid. A nd years added to the process. So for the politics of it is a win.
I don’t think this government is that clever. They might think they are but….Well...you did say "put your tinfoil on".
Some would wager that Canada announces a P-8 acquisition far sooner than Bombardier or deHavilland get any success in their lobbying efforts. They may be the also-ran years later, with a small consolation prize, but what Uncle Sam tells Canada to get, Canada gets…F-35, NASAMS, P-8 next, etc., etc., etc.Put your tin foil on.

If we follow the trail, canada has:
1. Bought the only ASW frigate in the actual competition, fulfilling NATO and implied US treaties for shipping interdiction. Insert BMD Defense as a plus.
2. bought a NORAD compliant fighter, per US treaties.
3. buying the MQ-9B drone for North American approaches and likely NORAD.
4. buying NASAMS after speaking with President Biden and agreeing to increase support to Ukraine
5. If P8 indeed fits the bill in buy and sell, then the Americans have a good point…

I know. Drones are shorthand and I should know better than using that. RPAS.We are not buying drones. They will be RPAS.
Sorry. I trigger when people say drones alittle because…they aren’t…drones. Lol
They aren’t just for NA/NORAD. They will be deployed.
TC can buy them and lease to DFO/CCG for doing the inshore work, while the Auroras and P8 do the offshore stuff.Canadian planes in the US for ISR missions . Well one they stopping to use. But first article I have ever read talking about three different Canadian build airframes in the US forces.

They where really handy in the Iraq and Syria and a few other places as they don’t appear to be Mil Aircraft, so they can do a lot of stuff that .Mil birds would draw attention (or fire).Canadian planes in the US for ISR missions . DFO already contracts Dash-8s and King Airs (PAL) and has its NASP Dash-8s/Dash-7. I hear the NASP aircraft don’t have the highest dispatch rate going…not sure doing more of the same would be the best use of taxpayers’ money.TC can buy them and lease to DFO/CCG for doing the inshore work, while the Auroras and P8 do the offshore stuff.
Everyone ready for UNCLESAM FRAGO 03? (01 was buy F-35, 02 was by NASAMS for UKR)
Looks like MND may be coming back from Washington with P-8s.
