Why does the engineers do not have colours.

Because they have been in nearly every Battle and War and would need one very big set of colour‘s with pole never mind the very big Sapper to carry them.
As UBIQUE implies,everywhere,same goes for the Gun‘s,their Gun‘s are their Colour‘s.

yep, do not ever screw with the arty‘s guns. Although I always thought you were supposed to have armed escorts to your colours.

So what are some traditions of the Engineers?

I do not know the exact tradition, but I know it is mainly infantry that have colors.
In the past, during battle, that is what the troops used to rally arround and follow, engineers I do not think would go into battle as a unit but would be attached to units like lets say the RCR, they would follow the RCR colors.

If you find the book on Flags (A-AD-200-000/AG-000) which covers Flags, Colours and Standards of the CF you will find the info you need. On Battle Honours, this is published on the DHH site:
Battle honours are awarded to provide public recognition to combatant units for active participation in battle against a formed, armed and a declared enemy as defined by the Government of Canada. For these purposes, combatant units are defined as Her Majesty's Canadian ships, the Artillery and Military Engineer branches as a whole, armour and infantry regiments, and operational flying squadrons, ie, those units whose functional purpose is to close with and conquer, neutralize or destroy the enemy as an effective fighting force. All units may, through happenstance, find themselves involved in battle. When necessary, all service personnel are issued weapons to defend themselves, and when called upon, are required to fight. Non-combatant units and sub-units operating independently, operating as part of a formation, or attached or in support of a combatant unit cannot gain battle honours for themselves or their parent unit.

My only beef with the colour thing is this.... All my fellow sappers understand the significance of the "UBIQUE" honour. However, nobody outside of our corps comprehends its importance. I got very tired after 23 years of explaining why we have no colours, especially on dog and pony shows overpopulated by reserve infantry keeners looking for a reason to piss on us. It is enough for those of us in the know, but educating the rest of the family might be nice.
