I assume you mean the new combat glasses that can be worn in conjunction with the C4 gas mask.

They can be ordered through your local MIR/military medical facility. They are only being issued to troops in operational units, people deploying overseas or on recruit/leadership courses. This is what I read on the DIN the other day. Go to the army website (intranet), there is a link on there that will bring up a PDF file that gives the full info.

It also depends on if you‘re Reg or Reserve. A reservist will only get the glasses when going operational, but I think that they‘re a lot easier to come by in the Regs (correct me if I‘m wrong).

Can‘t seem to find that link, but i just want a pair of prescription glasses with a band that goes around my head, kinda like goggles, would i be alowed to wear this with combats? I just need them for the field. Kinda like these but prescription lenses. Cuz i dont know what the cf has.

Thanks.

Just wear whatever glasses you normally wear... if you‘re afraid of them falling off your head, you can probably pick up a string from your local neighbourhood optometrist, or dollar store for that matter.

You could try getting some of the US issue ones.

Bolle X800, get a prescription lense put into them, these are used by the US Army Special Forces and Rangers

I konw some people that are selling them here in Canada, and have the prescription lense adaptor too.

ya but would i be allowed to wear those? the cf doesnt like people looking different. They look perfect though, i dont want to wear my normal glasses cuz dust will get in by the sides and stuff, id rather have goggle type thing.

You can pretty much wear any sort of glasses you want(although $300 Gucci ones might not be the best choice).   Reg force entitlement for glasses is two pair at public expense every two years.   If you go on a tour you'll get a pair of prescription sunglasses.  There is no entitlement for reservist that I'm aware of.  As for combat glasses, reservists are not entitle to them at public expense.   If you really want a pair try your local medical coy they might have a few extra sets(w/o lenses sitting around(its what I did).   You just take them to a eye glass place and they can add the lenses no problem.  Of course if you go overseas as a reservist you do become entitled to this benefits.  Exact entitlements can be found in the CFMOs 6-51 and 27-03 (Canadian Forces Medical Orders).

If you have no luck and you still want a pair drop me a PM, I think I have an old pair or two I can pop the lenses out of and send your way.  However I used my regular glasses for many years in the field and haven't had a real problem.

The whole point of the combat glasses was the small profile and the snug fit. The arms were made of flat flexible plastic and held on your ears with "D" rings. The lenses were also smaller than normal. This was so that you could don your mask and still get a seal. You won't be able to wear your Bolle's with your mask.

The new issue for the mask, which is available to Reservists on deployment, is your lenses mounted in a wire frame that fits inside your mask. The wire frame holds it in place and it remains inside your mask all the time.

The old style "birth control glasses" are still available to Reservists going on deployment.

If your not going to need your mask, you can probably wear, at your expense, anything the RSM allows. ;D

Just to confirm a couple points from above:

Now the good old silver framed birth control glasses with the D ear pieces are no longer being issued. We (as I am V3 and entitled to it all) are to wear normal glasses for our daily wear, and are issued a civiy designed glasses with modified fram that fricton fits inside of the gas mask.

As for entitlement...for regular force,  every 2 yrs :
V3-two pairs clear lenses
V2- one pair

for deployments (which is were your reserve entitilement comes in):
V3- two pairs clear, one pair tinted, one pair for your gas mask
V2- two pair clear, one for gas mask.

MJP described the new gas mask glasses well. The frames for your normal eye wear is up to your personal discretion, depending on how much out of your own pocket you wish to pay.

I'm digging up this old topic, since my question follows on the same line, and I couldn't find it answered anywhere else.

How exactly does the entitlement work for reservists going on deployment? I'm assuming I'll become eligible for them sometime during predeployment, but how does the process work.. Do I go and buy a pair of glasses on my own once authorized to do so, and then the CF refunds them to a certain maximum amount?

The DND website seems to be down, so I can't get to the CFMO's right now. I'll try and check them out tomorrow to see if it has anything regarding this.

For the currently issued ballisitc glasses, you can get an R/X prescription carrier MSN 8465-20-001-1738 trough your medical facility.

RoKo,

DND websites are offline today for scheduled upgrades. They are suppose to be back up later today.

If you go here:

http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/26412.0.html

You'll find a link under Supplemental Health Care - Vision Care Plan  that will direct you to the DND site
once it's back up.

Thanks! I'll definatley check that out when it's back up.
