Just curious. Does anyone know why we have that double zipper in combat pants? Is the purpose something I wouldn't discern because I'm a woman? It makes no sense to me.

It's also annoying. Once again, I have been treated to extra ventilation because I absent-mindedly pulled up the wrong part of the zipper. Thank goodness the combat shirts are long so it isn't obvious to the world.

This question has been niggling at me for literally years. So how about it? Does someone in this collective have the answer?

In FFO, it is harder to unzip from the top than from the bottom when nature calls. Bottom zipper has helped me many a time in that regard.

Not only that - with kit on like web gear etc the bottom up makes more sense

Twice the chance to run the tracks over something…

World rapidly going to hell and you are worried about zipper functionality???
You tell me the world event that could be happening where getting your dick caught in a zipper isn’t still a catastrophe.

If anything, the collapse of democratic norms, economic recession, and threats to sovereignty only up the need to be able to piss in an austere environment without risking the integrity of the twig and giggleberries. To say nothing of the need to keep everything in working order in case we need to repopulate.

I would argue that discussing / making jokes about something low-stakes is better for mental health. All I can do to influence the big issues is express myself to my elected representatives, vote according to my beliefs, and support the causes in which I believe.

I have mingled sympathy and amusement for the tribulations of masculine personal equipment. And I am glad to now know why I have to deal with the stupid zipper

Beware though, the teeth on the zipper are sharp and they are not sexist, they will try to take skin out of both man and woman alike.

Though it would be unusual for a single zipper to do so to both simultaneously.

I was involved (clinically) only once with a significant "zipper related penile injury" (ZIRPI) though I have, on rare occasion, felt the nip of the zip. In the case of the individual who came seeking aid while I was the duty medic, "going commando" was a contributing factor to the accident.

Shedding one's gitch, whether for comfort or fashion, is not unheard of in military circles. A lot of us have probably gone through that phase even back when wear of undergarments was (technically) not optional.

Rare, very rare.

Zip injuries rarely involved any other genital organ than the penis. The next most common organ involved was the scrotum, which was involved in <1% of all zip injuries. Zip injuries in females were exceedingly rare, with five actual cases reported during the 9-year study period. Four of the five injuries were to the labia during zip closure. The other injury was the result of a zip element acting as a foreign body within the vagina. The scarcity of injuries of the female genitalia made generating national estimates unreliable.

Lots of the guys in the Regiment went commando. Single and married. Maybe long johns in the winter, depending.

I have a story about guys being commando and the Brigade Commander's Inspection. Maybe another day.
