Combat Support Company

[Q 1]

Now that pioneer and mortar platoons are gone and tow is going to the strats, what does that leave for the combat support company? will recce get attached to bn hq? is their word on the javelin or spike? or is cs coy gone?

So far in the Lt Battalions we have Recce Pl, Direct Fire Spt Pl (MG) and soon a full Sniper Pl ( pers dependent), plus Sigs Pl and Bn HQ pers. So Cbt Spt is still pretty viable and large as a formation.

Sniper platoon?  I've not heard that one before.

How about a FAC platoon? Obviously, it would not fight as a whole bt would instead have dets farmed out to every Coy and Pl on the battlefield.

Sniper Pl- 18 pers, 1x Wo , 2x Sgt, 4x Mcpl and the rest tps.

FAC qual pers are embedded in Recce Pl now and with the FEO or Fire Effects Officer from our Gun regiment, old FOO party.

No requirement for FAC Pl.

That may be, but I've been listening to our JTACs for the last while going on that the FAC thing should not be a secondary function (as it is with the FOO & Recce pers currently doing it).

Though "FEO" is being used quite frequently, it hasn't, as of yet, been adopted (to the best of my knowledge). 

As for combat support platoon still being "large", well, no.  It is smaller than a rifle coy in size (it used to be MUCH bigger). :crybaby:

Fire Effects Officer while not being the accepted term in the units as of yet. Is being flaunted on all the new Tactics School courses such as CATC and ACT INF. FOO's just like the term so much.

Does FEO imply anything more/less than FOO,or is it just another name for the same function?

I think it is to get more on line with US terms as they still have the same skill sets. ie. FOO/FAC etc.

JTAC is the US term for FAC.  Our FAC are usnig the term because most of the air power they direct is American.

Q1,
Just remember that the TOW company that is in the Strathcona's is manned completely by members of the PPCLI.The company 2ic is LdSH(RC). How long this will last is I have no idea. Without a doubt there are serious issue's that still have to be worked out. (Manning,Operations,Training and a few other items)If anybody knows what the future holds fill us in!!!!!!
