So, what makes up an armoured battalion?

Curious... :)

Are you asking about Canadian units (i.e. an armoured Regiment, or a mechanised infantry battalion), or are you asking about foreign forces ... ?

Since RoyalHighlandFusilier is still digging that Soviet style trench, let‘s talk about those foreign forces. A Fantasian tank battalion (of a tank regiment) consists of:

  • 3 tank squadrons consisting of:
    </font>
    • 10 x MBT
    • 4 x KMT-5/KMT-6 mine rollers/ploughs
  • Battalion HQ with 1 MBT and 2 APC‘s
  • CSS troop
  • 1 ambulance

So that‘s a total of 31 MBT‘s for a tank Bn of a tank Regt. If it‘s a tank Bn of a motor rifle Regt, then it looks like:

  • 3 tank squadrons consisting of:
    </font>
    • 13 x MBT
    • 4 x KMT-5/KMT-6 mine rollers/ploughs
  • Battalion HQ with 1 MBT and 2 APC‘s
<font size="2" face="Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Arial, Sans Serif">
A tank Bn of a MR Regt has 40 MBT‘s, but doesn‘t have any integral CSS.

:tank:

Why am I still remembering Fantasian orbats? I can‘t remember what I had for lunch two days ago. I think I‘m wasting valuable brain space on useless trivia... :rolleyes:

Clasper...Fantasia no longer exists.

It‘s all Genforce now...put down the mess tin and canteen cup...

I too remember the days of the "Red Hoard" and the explosion of them coming out of a door with a big red star on it that was cut into the side of a hill....

But those days are gone my friend :warstory:

Thanks for bringing me back to reality, Franko. When I read RHF‘s question, and that old piece of knowledge leapt into my mind, I was so surprised and appalled at my level of geekiness that I just had to share it with someone. :blotto: After my imprecise post (I couldn‘t remember the distribution of mine clearing equipment and the number of vehicles in the CSS troop) I went through some old course notes, and came to a stunning realization. I made a small mistake in my post :o (but I‘ll let someone geekier than me point it out). The point is, I‘m starting to forget some of this stuff! :D Yay! Maybe in 10 years I‘ll forget that there are 13,165 soldiers in a Fantasian MR division. :rolleyes:

Cheers

More importantly, anyone remember the difference in forward (recce) elements?

Jeez, if I had a nickel for everytime we‘d go over (again!!) who took out the command tank, when to switch to the bmp‘s, what the composition of the lead element meant as far as follow on....

On the other hand, it was a lot more fun when we had an enemy....

Cheers-Garry

Note: None of this will be near our actual structure, especially once the MGS comes in.
