Confusion About Contracts :S

A 27 year old (assuming you went to school at 18) who just finished his last day of obligatory pay back service and then wants out will, and I can this with certainty, not be looked at favorably. Maybe it's different with pilots.

And with what authority do you make this assertion?

What about "I did my mandatory time, it wasn't for me anymore.  I didn't feel I was an asset to the organisation anymore as I was becoming more and more unhappy.  I figured it was better for both, the CF and I to quit before my contract end date.  The CFs agreed and here I am."?  There's no lie and is a valid answer.

You do not need to sum the things up for me, I've been in long enough to be able to figure stuff out by myself.

Here's a link for you....

http://www.admfincs.forces.gc.ca/admfincs/subjects/cfao/015-02_e.asp .  If you read in section 3 it says :

GENERAL

33.    Except during an emergency or as prescribed in this Section, a member
may request release at any time during a military career.  Such requests
may be approved subject to the conditions prescribed in this section.

P.S. I joined at 16...

Case by case. Want me to say it again? CASE BY CASE. I said that before, and I'm saying it again. Your post came off as saying that it's all good, release and nothing will happen. I said that it is a case by case process. And as to your link, nothing in there about it being a 'right'.

P.S. I joined at 17, whats your point? And how many of those years were in the training system...being a pilot and such. So again, whats your point?

I though you were thinking I joined at 18, my misread.  Yup, case by case.  But if it is accepted, you'll be released under 4c, which is a honorable release.  No "black marks" in the file....  Nothing bad will happen if the release is granted. Never said it is guaranteed you'll get release.  However, if there is no reason to keep you, they won't hold you back....

Entirely correct. 4c isn't for sure either, you could (not necessarily, and I will admit that it's not often) get a 5d or 5f if you really make a fuss/act unprofessionally if you get denied. And of course, going to a job interview and telling them you pulled the plug after you got the freebies doesn't look good either.

I think we're done here.

4c is for sure if they accept it. Items 1,2,3 and 5 are compulsory realease items.  4 is voluntary.  So if you put in your VR and it is accepted, it will be 4c if you have less than 20 years unless your medical condition gets so bad that you could be release medically or if you do something that would warrant an item 1 release.

To the original poster:  The 9 years includes 4 years of subsidised education + 5 years of obligatory service.  At least for me it did, and I don't think that has changed in the last 5 years, pilots are the exception.  Someone please correct me if I am wrong.  To stay in longer you need to sign your IE.

Piper, you are off base here.  If he wants to get out after his obligatory service it is his choice and there is no stigma attached.

I think what Piper is trying to get at is that if Bloggins keeps repeatedly asking for a release, and is repeatedly denied (due operational requirements, manning shortages etc.),  at some later date his/her CoC may decide they are an administrative burden/useless plug, and they punt them under one of the not so nice categories.  To Bloggins it may "appear" on the surface they got what they were asking for (being released), the reality/circumstances are much different.

Yes, thats what I thought.  I applied for ROTP like 4 years ago and thats what I was told. Ended up going to the reserves but im thinking about going back for the ROTP and from all the answers at recruiting the dates are different.

Thats why all this is so confusing.

Thats exactly what I was getting at.
