Consideration for the Victoria Cross - Afghanistan

I don't think this Liberal government (or the previous one, which had the time and ability to address this issue) wants Canada to have any heroes that aren't activists or entertainers. A "real war hero" doesn't fit the narrative of the peaceable nation.

I would love to be proven wrong.
Maybe the previous government, like you say about governments of all colours, was reluctant to confirm just how war-ish AFG was by awarding a VC?

I suspect this government sees things differently. Look at the investment in the CAF. We are seriously planning a massive expansion of the RCN, as well as adding a totally new capability for the RCAF.

The LPC under Carney seems a lot less squeamish about the CAF and the idea of conflict. Handing out a few (well earned) VCs might be seen as a way to appear even more serious about being a middle power on the global stage.
