Cot "organizer"

Just spent a few day in the field and realized how nice it would be to have somewhere to tuck away small gadgets nearby your kingsize bed in a five star mod-tent...

I remember seeing those cot "organizers" somewhere, but can't remember where and could not find them around the base's Kitshop on my last shopping trip (CFB Edmonton that is...).

Any ideas as to where I could find one for my next outing?

Cabela's down in the States makes them:
"Cot-Side Nightstand" $24.99 US (plus shipping & associated duty/GST)

CPGear used to carry a little Cot Bag a few years back...someone may have one kicking around still ::)

The RCD kitshop has had these for a couple of years.  Not a big seller for some reason.  It looks practical in however it goes against the principle of not getting too comfortable.  Don't get me wrong I am all about being comfortable in the field but I like to keep my kit packed when not in use as plans always change without warning.

The question was posted by an AF officer.

We all know that the AF believes "comfort" is one of the principles of war.  ;D

Thanks for the recommendations.  The one at Cabella is pretty much what I am looking for, I am just curious to see if there are any places in Canada where I can get these.  Will drop by a couple of outdoor stores around Edmonton.

Just to clarify: no, I am not on course, these are things of the past (hope so anyway).

As for comfort, I am a firm believer that as soon as the tactical scenario allows (i.e.: if "camping" "administrativelly" in the BSA, or in situations like G-8, forest fires, possible deployement with DART (Sri Lanka would had been a good go!!)), then comfort IS important.  I've just spent 2 weeks living out of camp built at the end of the runway in Cold Lake, and believe me, it was really easy to spot those with some "T-I" (time in), just by looking how homy they made their bed spaces.  Most EXs are already filled up with BS, there's no points for practice bleeding more than you have to.

Now, things are different in Tac Hel as we do not deploy with Kitchen sinks like the airforce, but we are normally allowed more than what we can carry on our back...  So, these small things can really make a difference.

Keep the good info coming!

Sorry to bring up an old topic.. but I see that CP Gear is carrying the Cot Organizer again. And I was thinking of getting one. I see the photo and the set up of it on the site. And it got me wondering, if I was to load the organizer to it design, even with the C7 in it, without no weight on the top of the cot, wouldn't the cot tip over? May be I need to see it to judge myself. But if anyone has the CP Gear one, what's your two cents on it?

Regards,
Sgt Schultz

I had the CP gear one, got it while I was on HLTA and used it for the last 3 months of my tour. Having a few items in it, including a C8A3 with 2 30rnd mags, and only my sleeping bag on the cot, it didn't tip over. Was quite nice to have all the pockets right beside me, especially one for a headlamp. I sure hate having to look around for one to use the facilities at 0dark30. I bring it on every ex with me now, and it hasn't failed me yet.

Just curious to know why CP Gear sells essentially the same product as Cabella's, but for nearly double the amount of money.
They even copy-pasted the description from Cabella's and adapted it for Canadian use...  ::)

I used a CP Gear one during Maple Guardian this past May. It worked fine, but I didn't put too much into it as I had plenty of room and other improvised furniture as well.

Laps was still jealous of my set-up, though.

Cabelas one is made overseas with the accompanying labour rates, and I don't know what materials are used in the construction, or warranty goes along with it.  If somebody wants to pay less, it's a free market, just bear in mind that the Canadian $ isn't at par with the US$ any longer, and with Cableas (as well as most US companies) orders to Canada are probably shipped via UPS/Fedex/other commercial courier service which have very expensive customs brokerage rates (usually between $25-50 for each shipment, regardless of value) .  With ours, you're getting a Canadian made product, constructed of high quality materials and manufactured by Canadian workers who are paid a fair wage.  In addition, we'll stand by and support that product for 5 years if anything at all breaks or wears out.

You'll find a ton of other products that are "cheaper" to buy when you visit Canex VS CP Gear
BUT
You get what you pay for.  Quality is sometimes "iffy".  From a personal perspective, I have no problem paying a higher price for something that is built well AND won't fall apart.  Standing by their product for 5 years says it all IMHO
