From Halifax's Chronicle Herald.....

Field ready for Skyhawks to land

By MONICA GRAHAM
Sat. Jul 11 - 4:46 AM

PICTOU — The field was mowed and tape surrounded the site Friday where the Canadian military parachute team will land in Pictou today.

...Three frigates are docked in the harbour, a helicopter rescue demonstration is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. today at Pier C and there are military displays.

At 2 p.m., CP-140 Aurora jets will fly past the town in a salute to the First World War’s No. 2 Construction Battalion, which was established in Pictou in 1916....

;D

For those of us wanting more info on a turbo prop engine:  :)

Turboprop engines are a type of aircraft powerplant that use a gas turbine to drive a propeller. The gas turbine is designed specifically for this application, with almost all of its output being used to drive the propeller. The engine's exhaust gases contain little energy compared to a jet engine and play a minor role in the propulsion of the aircraft.

Thanks. As an infantry guy (despite a checkered past), I didn't get much past:
"flames out back = jet; spinny things on front = prop"

;D

It should also be noted that the 3 Frigates mentioned in the article were not  in fact Frigates at all but 3 MCDV"s.
So much any accuracy in reporting but I guess we should be used to this by now.

Cheers

Hey it is the Chronicle-Herald...its not like there is much of a CF presence in Halifax or Nova Scotia, after all.

Well, except...

- HMC Dockyard;
- the entire Canadian Navy Atlantic/East Coast fleet;
- FDU (A);
- 12 Wing Shearwater;
- 14 Wing Greenwood;
- the HQs of LFAA, MARLANT, the Comm Group folks;
- 36 Canadian Brigade Group minus The PEIR;
- Air Reserve Flights located around the province; and
- any other units I have missed or omitted.

So, all in all...not much military in NS at all.  :)  You couldn't expect them to, oh, I don't know, contact the numerous Public Affairs assets or something.
