DEATH BY POWERPOINT

Guerilla snipers in Iraq are now polishing their craft online, with a web-based training manual.

"If you had only one shot, who should you kill?" the primer asks, leading its students through a series of grisly scenarios.

The manual was recently translated, turned in to a PowerPoint presentation and distributed by an American government worker in Iraq.

You can view it at: http://www.military.com/ppt/iraqi_insurgent_sniper_training.htm

My favorite is "killing doctors and chaplains is suggested as a means for psychological warfare".  ::)

  Agreed.

I think its a hoax.
Quite possibly.  If it was translated wouldnt someone be able to correct the grammar?  It doesn't all have to be literal.

I teach anti-terrorism, if this is for real and not a hoax, I need to incorporate it into my classes.  I'll have to see how I can validate this information through other sources.  Anyone have any ideas???

With absolutely zero time in (but impatiently waiting, of course), there were nonetheless a few things about this which raised my eyebrows.

Slide #6:

A tank driver was shot while crossing a bridge, resulting in the tank rolling off the bridge and killing the rest of the crew.

Could anyone with armored knowledge verify this, I had always thought the driver was contained within the tank, and used periscopes/cameras to see outside and navigate.

Slide #11:

If you said you would kill the Soldier in the forefront of the picture with a SAWMG, you are wrong because there are civilians around him and several will die.  Also, if the American Soldier feels that he will die, he will kill everyone around him in revenge (either we all live or we all die).

Since when have the insurgents cared about civilian casualties?

Slide #21:

You are wrong if you said you would shoot the tank commander on the left, because there are children nearby.

Ditto.

if it is real, I suspect it's more along the lines of propaganda than instruction. It may very well serve to draw more nutjobs into the 'Jihad'. Look at the blatant lies about the US troops slaughtering civilians. It would appeal to fanatics, and up the recruiting numbers for 'mujahedeen'. Once in-country, they can be "properly indoctrinated" as to the productive use of civilian casualties.

I know that story has been floating around for a while, I heard it about a year ago, but haven't heard/found anything that would confirm it.

As for the driver, he can either use the periscopes to see, or he can actually look out of the hatch.

Here's a picture of the driver with the hatch up and his head sticking out: http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/Abrams_Pics/M1-Abrams-LIRP.jpg

Obviously not much of a target, especially if the vehicle itself is moving (even slowly on a bridge)

I stand corrected; I totally missed that forward hatch on every Abrams photo I've seen.
