I've done a search here and googled it, however I can't seem to find any information. I'm a CIC officer applying for a class B contract and it said "desirable criteria" is the DD instructor course. Now obviosuly I'm not going to get loaded on said course unless I get this contract (and even then, I'm not sure, I haven't yet seen the TORs). But I am looking for some information on what it is, where it is, etc.

By that I think they mean credentials to teach the course. The guy who taught me mine was a certified driving instructor civvie side.

Could be wrong though about the meaning.

Try the Canada Safety Council - IIRC, they're the ones that endorse the course.

The one I did a year ago was an Ontario Provincial Defensive Driver's Course.  Not adapted to the military at all.  Even the videos, text and exercise book were civilian.  If I recall correctly, the course is intended for those driving vehicles on a civy street (be it Vancouver or Ottawa or Kandahar).

Catalyst....
Desirable criteria means just that, it would be nice for the successful candidate to have it... it does not say you have to have it to apply.
That having been said, I hope that this class B position is within the cadet movement.  Last I checked, CIC officers were not eligible to apply for Class B positions in Reserve or Regular environments.

Yes - its a position within the CCO :)

It was one of those 'desirables' and as such, I'd like to know a bit about it. Its a job within movements, and this dept co-ordinates the the 404's being issued to CIC officers (in co-ordination with MSE on the respective support bases, I imagine).

Good day,

To become a DDC Instructor, you must have been given a Canada Safety Council certified DDC Instructors course.

To get it through the military, you need to contact your supporting unit's MSE Safety section and get the information from them.  You will probaby need to have held a DND 404 collision free for a period of time and have your Chain of Command's support.  As well, there will need to be a requirement for a new instructor as there are costs involved.  Check the CFP 158(5) for complete details as well, TD 512 I believe.

Should you get the course through the civilian side, DND is not required to recognize it, but they may.

Also be aware that each province has their own Safety Council that is somewhat independent of the Canada Safety Council.  Make sure you go through the CSC if you want to have a chance of getting it recognized by DND.

Hope this helps,

MSE Op 935

Thanks a lot :)

The more I find out, the more I have a feeling that this posting was advertised with somebody in mind already.
