in fact the MoD we all owe our loyalty to him.

As CFL clearly stated, we do not. (Besides MoD is British  )
I pledge allegiance to the Queens representative. I dedicate myself to country and mission. No where in there does it say anything about allegiance or loyalty to the MND.

What a crazy topic.

We owe our allegiance to HRH Elizabeth II. For practical matters, HRH has delegated the job to the GG, who is our Commander in Chief, wether she wants to or not. The GG also ensures there is a government to run the nation on a day to day basis, and the Prime Minister selects a cabinet of (supposedly) senior, experienced and knowledgable MPs or qualified people if no suitable MP is available to run the various Ministries. (By this criterion, Edward Campbell  should be sitting in a senior cabinet post....).

As a BTW, Gen Hillier or whoever is the CDS is also the senior military advisor to the government, and is entitled to a seat at the cabinet table, although this privilage is rarely used.
