I read a post on an internet forum (non military) that I am a member of:  The son of one of our forum members who is a medic in The Netherlands /Dutch Army is going to be posted to The Cdn. Field Hospital in Kandahar. He will be coming to Canada this summer for training prior to his posting. Training to be in Toronto and Cold Lake according to his father.I would be inclined to think Camp Borden---North of Toronto and Wainwright--- which is not far from Cold Lake would be more logical.  Just curious as I know that people often get mixed up about what part of Canada is where.

Canada is the lead nation for the Role 3 hospital in Kandahar, but it is a NATO asset that works for all forces in RC(S).  There have always been Dutch, Brit, US and other nations medical staff attached there.  We send people to The Netherlands for training prior to going over, too.

Roto 6 is a central area rotation, mounted out of Petawawa, which is also home to 1 Canadian Field Hospital, the unit responsible for most of the surgical and "hospital centric" capabilities in the CF.  The Role 3 conducts a portion of their pre-deployment training in Wainwright, tied in to Ex Maple Guardian, but also had pers in Cold Lake for Ex Wolf Safari last fall, which is a NATO validation ex.

Your friend could be training in any one of these places, Borden, too, depending on what 1 Cdn Fd Hosp comes up with for their plans.

I hope this answers your questions,

PMT

The Dutch will be part of the Role 3 collective training at Wainwright in May and plans are being worked on for them to come to 1 Cdn Fd Hosp in Petawawa for the individual training in March.
