Meritorious Service Medal
(military division)

CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER DONALD GERALD FOX, M.S.M., C.D.
Kingston, Ontario and Burton, New Brunswick

CWO Fox, then MWO, has provided exceptional service in the field of mine awareness training. His detailed reference materials and training packages are directly credited for saving life and limb of Canadian soldiers and air personnel deployed throughout the world, as well as the lives of countless international military and United Nations communities. In particular, the United States 82nd Airborne Division specifically requested that CWO Fox conduct its mine awareness training prior to deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq, in 2002. The outstanding service provided by CWO Fox brings credit to himself, to the Canadian Forces, and to Canada.  :cdn:

Well done Donny!  :salute:

WOW!!!

The last time I met Don was when he was Roads & Grounds at Dundurn in 95.If it's the same Fox,I first knew him back in the mid 70's from 3FD Sqn then 1 CER.
Dave MacCraken also got his MSM not too long ago for his contribution for demining.

Good Job Guy's. :salute:

Nick,

You might be confusing Donny for Bernie Fox. Bernie was at Dundurn for a long while in the early to mid 90's. Bernie was a long time 1 CER guy previously.

This is a bit dated, but perhaps not known to everyone... WO Pennie was WFE Tech from 1 CER Edmonton that was part of 12 Fd Sqn that was supporting 3 PPCLI on Op APOLLO.  Great NCO, soldier, technician...his early retirement is the Forces loss!

Meritorious Service Medal (military division) From The Canadian Gazette dated 26 Apr 2003

SERGEANT MARK WAYNE PENNIE, M.S.M., C.D. Edmonton and Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta

From January 8 to July 30, 2002, Sgt Pennie was responsible for setting up, operating and maintaining the Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit for the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Battle Group, in Afghanistan. This facility, originally intended to provide a clean and reliable source of fresh water to the Canadian Battle Group, ended up supplying water to all Task Force personnel at the Kandahar airfield. Sgt Pennie also displayed great initiative in restoring the existing airfield sewage lagoon to an operable condition after many years of disuse, thus improving the lives of the Coalition soldiers and local civilians while lessening the impact on the environment.

I first met Mark in 96 .His father was a Cpt. on the B.C. Ferries, now retired and I know him from our Officers Union and Web Site.I emailed Duff when I learned Mark was awarded the MSM and passed on my regards.

Needless to say the Corps is finaly being recognised. :salute:

Congratulations to Donnie,

I know the package he put together for Op ECLIPSE was excellent.

I didn't realize the Mark Pennie got out. You are absolutely right Sapper6, it is the Engineers' loss. I am sure he is using his time productively on civilian street.  :salute:

Yes, I've had recent contact with Mark and he remains in the Edmonton area.  He has recently moved between civilian jobs but remains in the Water, Fuels and Environment field.  Despite my urging, he continues to resist re-enlisting.  ;)
