Thanks Quag, seeing as my ULO/SEM have sent me jack besides the dates for BOTP.

As for my profile, don't be so sure. If all goes to plan, you'll see me at the armour school over the next few summers. I've had a change of heart in regards to my trade.  ;)

Great to hear.  You'd be the only 21U I know in my cohort.  I think you'd have a little more fun in the armour corps then logistics anyway! ;D >:D

Black stands out, maybe it will be okay, maybe not... if I were you I'd hit it with some olive drab spray paint  ;)

Cheers

I know socks are probably not going to be a problem since they're hidden inside the boot and all, but since i wasn't able to get issued my combat sock system, I'd appreciate some brand suggestions on socks to get in the meantime.

Thanks for your help

Wigwam Ingeneous - best socks ever.  Order them from Mountain Equipment Co-op for the best price.

A Black Camelback shouldn't be an issue.  I wouldn't worry.

Buy online.  www.mec.com

Yeah, I realized that after I posted it and didn't get back in time to change it.

I know the thread is abandoned, but I thought I should give some closure to it while I have some internet time.

I went with the wigwam socks, and I'm quite happy with them. My staff here at CAP are pretty relaxed about some kit, so I've been lucky enough to get away with Magnums and non-issue gloves. I took everyone's advice and got a hydration system from sgt bilko's surplus, although the bag it came with was definately not strong enough for military use and leaked almost immediately. I bought a Nalgene bag from Wheeler's and haven't had a problem with it. most if not all of the candidates in my platoon have also purchased their own camelbak-style systems. The bottom line is that WRT kit, it really does depend on your staff. most of the Franco platoons are not allowed to use non-issue stuff.

That is because you purchased the cheaper version and not the real camelbak with cadpat hydration cover which I mentioned in this thread. Sorry you were not happy with your purchase

From a current CAP Candidate:

Camelbaks are permitted however if the tubing is not green or black, you will have to cover it with tape.

Gucci boots are not permitted in garrison without a medical chit but most staff will accept the excuse that you are only wearing them in garrison to break them in for the field.

Knee pads are issued as are ballistic goggles and combat sock systems.

Tacvests are also issued but do not even think about hanging stuff from them with carbiners etc.

Make sure you bring your sense of humour, patience and keep a cool head.
