Wow.
No kidding. I'm not sure many tourists actually realise the damage they can do. Every time I've seen tourists allowed to handle one, the keepers have put 'gloves' over the koalas paws to stop the otherwise inevitable claw insertion.Hale said:Koala's arent exactly the cuddly type either. Though they wont go you like a grizzly or brown bear, it takes more then suction caps to climb those trees and i'd be very surprised if you were still smiling after one of them dug its claws into you. The little bastards are vicious beasts. And dont even get me started on drop bears and koala fires....
Hale said:And koala fires! Those things are just plain scary. We all know how Koala's eat nothing but eucalyptus leaves, well the oil from the eucalyptus leaves builds up around their faces and upper bodies. And the little koala arms just arent long enough to clean it off. So more and more of the oil builds up. Then, during the summer, you can have a group of Koala's, known as a flare, crossing the ground for greener trees. One of their claws strikes a little bit of flint or rock or something, up goes a spark and WHOOSH! You've got yourself a bush fire as the burning koalas panic and spread the flames through the bush. Often thats how our big summer bush fires start.
Its quite tragic, especially with the species in such small numbers at the moment.
I haven't heard of it, but it wouldn't surprise me. Eucalyptus is all they eat, and it ferments. They sleep roughly 20 hours a day because of it.241 said:So is that true, the flaming Koalas, or is that some kind of Australian running joke?
