A long time ago, I had a great case manager. When I questioned how the adjudication works, I found out that Doctors are seldom involved. The adjudication is done by a bunch of layperson who have a stack of medical books. If your diagnoses fits the description in the books, you're good to go. If not, you're stuck on the hamster wheel.

That sounds like it was almost designed to be dumb…

No rational person would say “Ya know what? Let’s leave out the specialist doctor who ordered the tests & made the diagnosis. Instead, let’s just hire some random muppets to cross reference the description the member gives with some textbooks, and if it sounds legit, approve it.”

I swear we pay taxes just to pay for all the useless drones the government hires


On a more positive note, great people can make a huge difference, like your case manager. Taking the time to explain how the process actually works doesn’t take much on their end, but can be incredibly helpful and reassuring to the member.
